Hey YOMI members,
My name's Katie,i 'm a young women on the path to start her dreams to make a better community in Sierra Leone concerning Youth. I live in Adelaide, Australia, where i am starting a West African Revolution!! It has surely been raising a few eyebrows! Many have come to me, asking me where do i intend to be and what direction does YEDEM- AUS want to go... and i simply replied and said words not actions. I think part of the problem is i have absolutely no funding what so ever and simply my blood money has been sucked up by my own wedding celebrations happening on the 21st of April 2007 (i'm marrying a Sierra Leoneon whom i have been with for three and half years! If you want photos send me a message!). Because i have only just been appointed to this position, i must admit i havent really started a great deal, but i have been making networks with government officials, and my own christian study groups. At the moment there no funding opportunies from the government, but surely something will come up soon. As for the development and implementation of programs, am currently in the process of writing and designing my own toolkit on leadership, to promote leadership amongst the youth in Australia especially West African new arrivals into Adelaide and Nationally!
My dreams and aspirations are NOT local (meaning not in Australia) , meaning I want to go abroad. My main goal is to find someone in Australia who I could receive a grant to build a community centre, library, drop-in centre and home for the homeless and under-privileged children of Sierra Leone. I would like to develop and implement community programs, awareness, and education and referral services to improve the health and well-being of the community especially children and adolescence who have been through the devastation of civil war.
My ultimate goal is to give back the education I have received throughout my life back to the people of Sierra Leone.
I have already studied Community Development in College and now currently in my first year of a Bachelor Degree in Youth Work. Let's build a better future in Sierra Leone.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me
Cheers Katie
