Society for Democratic Initiatives is expanding it programs and accepting application from individuals with  strong sense of commitment, initiative, and possess excellent organizational, analytical and writing skills to work on one of our program areas as intern or just willing to learn:
 
Freedom of Information and Expression Law Advocacy- preferable individual with legal experience or persons from humanities who are ready and willing to learn. Applicants can be either from a graduate school or undergraduate school. The duties of the intern is to help work on advocacy strategies, liaising with different civil society and other organizations working in the coalition for Freedom of Information, help prepare and produce awareness-raising materials, meeting and lobby parliamentarians and other policy institutions and personnel etc.
 
Legal Aid- preference will also be given to people with legal, human rights and criminal law background. Alternatively, applicants with journalistic and media school background could be admitted. Interns will be responsible to visit various prisons in Sierra Leone; take legal notes/statements from prisoners; preparing briefs for solicitors; provide counseling and education to prisoners, and help solicitors in court room.
 
Women and Children’s Rights: Applicants with strong commitment to women and children’s issues and with excellent ability of solving critical problems. Applications are welcomed from any discipline. The responsibilities are that intern will work with the women and children’s rights section and should be willing to travel around Sierra Leone; identify problems faced by women and children; proffer solutions to problems; provide advocacy training programs for women’s leaders; advocacy awareness raising material.
 
Clinical and legal Education- preferable a legal, educational and human rights background, but any applicant with willingness to work and learn is welcome.  The program provides community clinical and paralegals to monitor local courts and human rights abuses. Intern must be able to articulate clinical and legal issues and help in providing and preparing trainings for paralegals.
 
Fund Raising: Applications are invited from graduate-school only and intern most have strong sense of commitment to help seek funds for SDI-SL. Most be knowledgeable in project writing and with vast knowledge of the donor community. Intern must be articulate, aggressive in funding raising and able to work under pressure.  
 
Sierra Leone provides a unique experience gaining opportunity of a country in transition and where real human rights work is done in the field. Applications are welcomed from any part of the world, SDI is a non-racial, non-religious and non-discriminating organizations. Individuals interested can write to sfd_i (at) yahoo.co.uk  and submit a CV and covering letter together with a sample writing of no more than 3000 words and the names of two referees.
 
The program regrets that it cannot offer remuneration.  Intern most be able to raise sufficient funding for his/her stay in Sierra Leone.
