Hello Everybody,
Regarding the discussion that is going on, I would like to add few points. These points are not just from the point of view of my country (INDIA) but from human nature in general. We all believe that we have our personal likings and depending on that we choose our priorities. But we should not miss one major aspect that our culture builds our personality. And if we want to give women a push in any sector for that matter we need to tackle this issue from reforming our culture's drawback. In many cases it is the gender bias that plays an important role in any culture. As every culture is ruled and dominated by males. Thus our likings, believes and many more things are developed / rather build in us right from our childhood (in majority of cases). It is the Mother (Women) who has to be made to realise, the importance of education and much more things that will make her aware of, what is prosperous for the future of her daughter. If we succeed in reforming the believes and thinking of the Males and the Mothers at family level , we will be able to succeed in our mission on global level. I feel, unless the male change their attitude towards women and their ego hassles, they won't be able to gracefully accept, women as their superior which indicates that there are very few chances of even visualizing women as decision makers.
Although time is changing and there are exceptions to this, the velocity of development is slow. And in some cases, although the decision making is left to women the strings are actually in their hands. But we can hope for the best.
I believe, we all, participating in this dialogue are lucky to have supportive family and friends.
Answer to the questions :
Q1/3) What is your role in this process?/ Have you been encouraged to get involved in policy and decision making at?
I am in the field of Communication and Software. I even work for an NGO (Shobha Foundation) . I was fortunate to have the backing of my colleges and family, and hence today I am able to actively participate in policy making of our Foundation. I am the director of the project, Internet Training for Senior Citizens and Housewives (ITSCH). It was my idea and I was given the liberty of taking my own decisions to run this project.
My foundation gave me the opportunity to be a part of the Salzburg Seminar (digital Divide 2003).
This seminar has helped me in understanding the problems and the solutions as well.
Thus I feel with my project (ITSCH ) I am making the Senior Citizens and women aware of the technology, independent and keeping them with the generation.
Q2) Do you know if your country or region has an e-strategy?
