Dear All,
We would like to welcome you to the World Urban Forum - Youth Online
Consultation. This consultation will give you a voice in planning the
upcoming World Urban Forum in Vancouver in 2006. The topics we will be
covering are outlined in the Child and Youth Friendly Cities dialogue
paper which was written by a youth, youth run agencies and researchers
in an attempt to outline some of the actions undertaken by youth in
dealing with their most pressing issues. You can download this and
other relevant documents at
http://groups.takingitglobal.org/wufconsultation/docs or for a hard
copy please send your mailing address to World Urban Cafe, Box 34097,
Stn D, Vancouver B.C. V6j 4M1.
Below is the outlined agenda for this online consultation. Each
question will be discussed for approximately three days. Obviously if
certain questions will need additional time to be discussed this can be
coordinated, but when possible lets try and keep our answers within
this timeframe. The first set of questions that will be discussed are
mainly on the structure of the WUF and what you would like to see
happen in the process leading up to the Forum and at the WUF in 2006 in
terms of overarching theme, sub-themes, initiatives that support these
themes and the role of key stakeholders in this process.
Please start sending your initial thoughts on this first question as of
today. Please feel free to also give concrete examples in your own
community, and share information, or web links!
Looking forward to a next couple of weeks of valuable discussions and
to lots and lots of contributions, debated and opinions. If you have
any further questions or concerns please don't hesitate to email us.
Regards,
Doug and Alberto
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Question(s) 1 - Tuesday 8th February 2005 - Friday 11th February 2005
1. What should be the overarching theme?
2. What should be the four or so sub-themes (one for each day)?
3. What related initiatives/projects need to be undertaken in the short
term
to support the theme/sub-themes? Is there anything else that needs to
happen
leading up to WUF?
4. What should be the role(s) of the VWG and its Vancouver/BC based
partners
regarding WUF? (Noting the roles of the UN-Habitat and of the National
Advisory Committee on WUF, the VWG may wish to look for unfilled niche
roles
to help meet WUF needs (in addition to providing theme/program advice).
For
example, the UN-Habitat has stated they are looking for help in
increasing
the number of WUF delegates from Asian countries, Indigenous Peoples
and the
private sector.)
