United Nations Global Youth Leadership Summit

Hello,
The Millennium declaration agreed on by member states of the United Nations at the Millennium summit in September 2000 focused on ten goals namely: eradication extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability and develop a global partnership for development. All these are to be achieved by 2015 and engaging young people to accelerate progress was also recognized at the summit.
Young people between the ages of 15 and 24 consists of one fifth of the Worlds six billion people and most of them live in developing countries and without them, achieving this goals will be a nightmare. The United Nations over the years have been championing youth participation and two years ago decided to organize a series of Regional Youth leadership summits in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean and the focus of these summits is to accelerate the achievement of the MDGs by building on Youth synergies. The results of these regional summits is this first ever United Nations Global Youth Leadership Summit. This summit with theme Achieving the Millennium Development Goals: Young Voices against Poverty, will bring together two young leaders (male and female) between the ages of 18 and 30 years from each of the member states of the United Nations that will be held from October 29 to 31 at the United Nations General Assembly Hall in New
York under the Presidency of the Secretary General of the United Nations, HE Kofi Annan.

Mr. Mohanlal Mittal - Founder, Gita-Mohan Mittal Foundation (GMMF)
H.E. Shaikha Haya Rashed Al-Khalifa - President of the 61st Session of the United Nations General Assembly
H.E. Mr. Heinz Fischer President of Austria
H.E. Mr. Abdoulaye Wade President of Senegal
Bill Clinton Former President of the United States of America
Ms. Thoraya Obaid - Executive Director, UNFPA
Mr. Jeffrey Sachs - Director, UN Millennium Project etc
