Dear All,
Thank you all for taking the time to read and participate in the discussions
over the last few weeks.
Thus far, this three week discussion has focused on a number of broad issues
including a recap of the conference, models of youth participation, and
consensus building. The issues were raised to spur the discussions about the
frameworks of building a youth network in North America. This particular
discussion group was created with the intent to enable participants to reflect
on the conference, and bring others who were not able to attend, up to speed on
the conference and join the discussion.
This discussion will expire today and we will launch another group, specifically
focusing the discussion on building a NA youth network. This new discussion
will take place on the YDP Project page located at
http://projects.takingitglobal.org/ydpna. I believe you will need to be
approved by the administrator to join the group.
If the last few weeks have been any indication of the 'summer mode' (and unless
there are strong objections), I would like to hold off the YDP discussions until
late August (the last week, the week of Aug 27-31) when most people are back
from vacation and back in 'work' mode.
In the meantime, I am proposing four things:
1) Join the project page!
2) Go to the Discussion Board and comment on the proposed topics and timelines
It is my hope that these discussions around the proposed topics serve as a
guideline to building concrete deliverables and would culminate in a concept
note for the network. These are just suggestions in moving the discussion
forward and I hope people will take the initiative to participate in such a
discussion. If you have other suggestions on topics and timelines, please feel
free to comment on the discussion board.
3) Open call for moderators
I'm happy to serve as a 'facilitator' and/or a 'moderator' in the background,
but the group needs to lead the discussions going forward. As such, I am
looking for moderators who can do this, based on the proposed topics. If you
are interested in moderating, please send me a quick email explaining why you
want to moderate and which discussion you would like to moderate. Please
understand that moderating will take some level of commitment and initiative,
but in turn, that will enable you to take a leadership role in building the
network.
4) Join the Project Blog
Blog A: Express your ideas going into forming a youth network in North America
Blog B: How do we connect beyond an online platform?
I understand many of you are anxious in putting this network together, but this
is a long term investment that will require increased participation, diligence
and patience. With that said, I look forward to working with you on this long
term project!
Take Care,
Mitty
