Week One Summary: Initial responses to week one discussion addressed
impressions of the Youth Open House, and addressed the difficult task of
sustaining the momentum from the conference after its conclusion. All the
participants in the first week?s discussion conveyed a very positive impression
of the participants from the YOH!, expressing admiration for the level of
commitment and variety of projects in development led by young people. The use
of Open Space, facilitated by John Engle, also received positive reviews.

A desire to create a North American youth network was expressed by all
respondents, in order to connect not only YOH!participants but also include
other youth organizations, to more effectively collaborate on development
projects and long-term goals. Suggested benefits of such a network include
creating dialogue between youth organizations in the United States and Canada,
maintaining dialogue between the youth in Canada and the U.S. and the World
Bank, connecting like-minded organizations, and allowing for collaboration on
achieving global aims, such as the Millennium Development Goals. It was further
pointed out that, regardless of label, any North American youth network would
take a unique form, in order to incorporate the unique abilities and position of
youth in the United States and Canada.

No specific framework has been agreed upon for the network; a YDP North America
chapter was suggested, and can be commented on at
