Hi everyone!
My name is Alexia Ash. I am an American student currently interning at the
World Bank, where I work with the North American Affairs team. Mitty did an
excellent job of explaining the purpose and activities of the North American
Affairs team, so I will not rehash what has already been said.
I received an excellent impression from the conference. Being involved in the
final preparations leading up the conference, I was very interested in what the
participants would be like and what topics of discussion would be proposed at
the open space forum. The depth of knowledge and breadth of interests among the
participants was astounding. It is a rare pleasure to be among so many
inspiring people, regardless of age, educational level, or length of experience.
The conversations were thought-provoking, to say the least, and my main
take-away was twofold: first, that the complexity of development issues poses a
significant challenge to the world, but our generation in particular as we lead
the world forward; second, that with so many capable people willing to steer our
generation forward, a little organization and cooperation could go a very long
way. I agree that a North American youth network could certainly provide a
framework for the necessary organization and an accessible means of
communication among young leaders.
I think the greatest advantage we have as a generation, particularly in North
America, is our access to technology. Through the use of online resources, such
as TakingITGlobal, email, and electronic forums, we have the capability to
maintain the momentum from the Youth Open House, even in the midst of our hectic
daily lives. It also makes our network easily accessible to those who are
interested in joining despite not having attended the conference. By bridging
the gap among ourselves, we can more effectively bridge gaps around the world.
Again, it was a great pleasure to meet all of you at the Youth Open House, and I
look forward to continuing to work with you,
Alexia
