Hi! My name is Kirsten Jordan and I am currently TakingITGlobal's
Online Community Partnerships Coordinator and we're located in Toronto,
Canada. As many of you may already be aware TakingITGlobal is an
international organization - led by youth and empowered by technology.
TakingITGlobal connects youth around the world to find inspiration,
information and get involved in improving their local and global
communities.

I thought that the conference was a great opportunity to connect and
engage with like-minded individuals from both Canada and the United
States. To be honest I didn't know what really to expect at YOH and was
curious when I first arrived to see how it would be organized and run. I
was also curious to see who would be there and was glad to see that
individuals, smaller organizations, start-ups, and established
organizations were all represented. The Open Spaces idea was a new
concept for me and it was an interesting one to get used. John was
truly right in saying that if something wasn't talked about then we only
have ourselves to blame. After all, we were the ones that proposed the
topics! I do wish, however, that we were given a little bit more of a
dynamic presentation on the World Bank.

One of the main things that I took away from YOH is that there are some
amazing young people out there doing amazing things. I've been to quite
a few events/ conferences and each time I go to them I am always blown
away by how many things are happening out there. It was great to meet
and hear about projects, other organizations, and peoples' thoughts!
Great connections were made I feel!

It was clear at YOH that a North American youth network will be a
challenge to set up, but I feel that it is a necessary challenge that we
need to undertake. The benefits of establishing a network would clearly
outweigh the cons of establishing one. We all had our individual
opinions at YOH on how this network would look and it was obvious that
ours would not replicate the existing YDP networks. We are a truly
unique region in size, age, regions, and culture, so I feel that this
should be a part of our approach in moving forward. In my opinion, the
best thing that we could do is to be clear-thinking and logical about
what we would want to achieve with this network. Don't let emotions get
the better of ourselves! We all, after all, do share the common goal of
coming together and working more collaboratively with one another. How
this is shaped is up to us! So, let's just get started and keep the
ball rolling on this! List three goals we each have perhaps could be a
start or even just one?

Take care,

Kirsten Jordan
