  Hi Henry,

Talking about Kenya and HIV/AIDs i would say that we have taken quite a step and we are quite ahead as far as sensitizing people on HIV. The epidemic is no longer seen as a curse and most myths that held earlier (like sleeping with a virgin can cure you of HIV)are quickly being forgotten. Most areas in Kenya now have places for volunteer councelling, testing and ARTs are pretty available and much chaeper than they were a few yaers ago. People can now talk about it freely as more people are well educated on the issue.

Kenya now is focussing on not just the infected but the affected. We have programs to support HIV orphans. other advancements are in the prevention of mother-child transmission during birth. This is some of what has probably made the HIV infection rate to drop by 6% in the last one year.

However much still needs to be done in the rural areas where access to ARVs is still a problem and where most still hold on to distructive myths.

Daisy, Nairobi.

Dear Group,

I believe it is very essential to have the rural persons educated

on HIV/AIDS. So much has been done at the urban centres leaving

the rural people with very little knowledge on HIV/AIDS apart from

the basics on the same. I am working with an organization that is

researching on HIV/AIDS called CD2BN. It is also clear from the information collected

that there are still myths and stigma on it.

But with much dissemination of

information the people have been educated about what HIV is, what AIDS

is, transmission methods, ARTS, importance of VCT, how to form

support groups that have helped provide hope for both for the infected

and affected.

It is also important to help start up economic generating projects now and you can do

that now and help out here if you can.

In rural areas to ensure self reliance. Unless knowledge and education is spread

Far and wide and even underground, then HIV is here to stay. Hence also the

essence of

Taking ICTs to the rural areas to ensure shared information. And one of my projects is focussing on Taking IT to the locals especially here in Nigeria.
