Dear Friends,

Tackling Climate Change is an overriding challenge of the 21st century.
Scientific evidences speak that global climate has been changing due to
unreasonable human activities. As the rate of climate change is increasing,
the cost to control its impact and slow down its rate is growing. Climate
change can grow into a larger and catastrophic problem in future if we
immediately don't take concrete steps to curtail overuse of energy and
fossil fuels. While policy makers worldwide recognize the importance of
stabilizing global climate, international negotiations to implement various
policies and measures have stalemated over issues such as potential negative

implications for the economies, limited progress by developed countries,
reluctance of developing countries to accept binding commitments, etc.

As part of next generation youth are those groups of citizen who are
seriously going to be affected by these repercussions. So it is imperative
that involvement and interest of youth in issues of climate change is
checked. Through youth initiatives they can build local, regional, national
and even international co-operation and alliance to mitigate impacts and
adapt against possible threats of Climate Change. Youth are often the first
to take advantages of advances in information and communication technology.
They are more open to changes and alterations.* * Youth population holds 18
percent of World's Population. Without participating youth in this process
of consultation the real impact of all these adaptation and mitigation
effort would be unsuccessful. The generations next, youth, are more
vulnerable than anybody else because the serious repercussions of climate
change are yet to be seen. The repercussions will make bigger impacts and
cause great concerns in coming days. So it is very important we understand
the insight and interest of youth towards this sensitive issue and build a
framework to participate them.

To mark World Climate Change Day 2007 and unite youth to act against this
global issue, Youth Engagement in Sustainability (YES) has taken this
initiative to build a global network of youth who are concerned and want to
act now against CLIMATE CHANGE.
