Hi Everyone!
The theme for the next issue of Panorama will be Human Security, as one of
TIG's upcoming monthly themes will be Peace, Conflict and Governance.
Human Security is a new way of approaching security at the local, national
and global levels which focuses on the security of people rather than the
security of states. According to the Human Security approach the best way of
ensuring international peace and security is to first ensure the peace and
security of people. Within this new approach both violent and non-violent
issues are considered security threats. Things like poverty, disease, human
rights, economic instability and environmental degradation. Threats to Human
Security are present in all parts of our world; whether it is the pollution
of industrial America, water scarcity in the villages of Kenya, unemployment
and discrimination in the banlieus of Paris, threats to freedom of the press
in the Philippines or violence in the streets of Baghdad.
The next issue of Panorama will focus on TakingITGlobal member's
perspectives, opinions and encounters with this new approach to peace,
stability and security. Do you think people have truly become the focus of
current security initiatives that deal with both violent and non-violent
threats? What affect, if any, do you think the focus on Human Security has
had on conflicts all over the world, as well as the attempts to create peace
and security for everyone in our world?
