  Hi Youth RISE,

A shout out to those of you working in Eastern Europe/ Central Asia. For
those of you that don't know me, I'm GYCA's Co-Founder and helped a bit
getting Youth RISE on its feet in the early years. I'm now working at
GBCHealth (formerly the Global Business Coalition on AIDS, TB and Malaria)
in NYC & I wanted to share some info with you on our work in Russia & seek
possible connections. Our office there has a somewhat different history and
focus than GBCHealth in general and is very active in the harm reduction
space. They do high-level advocacy, national PSAs on TV and other media,
roundtables with politicians and business, and much more.

Attached is their report, Principles of Evidence-Based Medicine and Use of
Harm Reduction Programs to Prevent HIV Infection Among Vulnerable
Population Groups. Check out the list of contributors- very impressive!

For those of you familiar with the anti-harm reduction climate in Russia
where IDUs and service providers face frequent persecution, you'll
understand how difficult it is to get Duma (govt) representatives and the
medical establishment on board with things like needle exchange,
substitution therapy, PSAs that talk frankly about the issues and harm
reduction centers, and outreach to IDUs. GBCHealth Russia has been able to
mobilize govt, business, media and civil society on harm reduction despite
major opposition and dwindling funds.

On a related note, GYCA is still looking for an Eastern Europe/ Central
Asia Regional Focal Point! Please contact me directly for an application if
you're interested.

Best,
Joya
