> The Reference Group was established in 2002 to provide evidence-based
advice
> to the United Nations on issues related to injecting drug use and HIV.

> is an independent group comprising experts active in the field from around
> the world.

> The Reference Group provides reviews of current knowledge, across a number
> of domains, relevant and informative for the broader research, clinical
and
> public health communities. As part of its core work the Reference Group
> undertakes reviews of the global epidemiology of HIV and injecting drug

> who inject drugs. All reviews are endorsed by consensus by the Group.

> Terms of membership are for 12 months. Members may be invited to reapply

> continue membership at the end of this term.

> Members do not receive financial remuneration for their work on this

> Selection will be based on consideration of candidates’:

> injecting drug use and people who inject drugs

> - Knowledge of a particular geographic region with regards to
> HIV/AIDS and injecting drug use

> - Other relevant experience and knowledge, for example: advocacy
> work or involvement in a peer organisation for people living with HIV/AIDs
> or people who inject drugs

> - Capacity to contribute the time required

> There is a requirement that the Reference Group be comprised of members
> that, collectively, have an understanding of issues in this field across
all
> world regions.

> People living with HIV and those who are current or former injecting drug
> users are encouraged to apply.
>
> Current employees of UN organisations are not eligible to apply;
individuals
> who are engaged by UN organisations in a consultant capacity are eligible.

> The selection of Reference Group members is made by a Steering Committee
> which is comprised of representatives from UNODC, UNAIDS and WHO.

> Application procedure
>
> Applications for nomination should be in writing and submitted no later
