Dear Youth RISE Members,
Further to some previous emails on this group, I just wanted to email
quickly and clarify some points regarding registrations and delegate fees
for the IHRA conference in Liverpool.
Firstly, we have a subsidised 'Reduced Rate' for the conference which
applies to full-time students (as well as delegates from low or middle
income countries and unwaged delegates). Although this rate is still not
'cheap', it is subsidised by IHRA and the Conference Consortium, has been
reduced (before tax) compared to previous years, and compares favourably to
other international events of this size.
Nonetheless, we appreciate that the cost remains prohibitive for many
delegates - especially young people and people who use drugs - and we are
constantly working hard to secure funding from donors for scholarships to
support delegates. These primarily go to people who are presenting during
the conference, and will include some places for Youth RISE (as in previous
years). We have yet to confirm the exact number of places, but will aim to
do so as soon as we hear back from donors such as UNAIDS and UNICEF.
The demand for scholarships each year is high and, unfortunately, we have
yet to be able to meet this demand. However, if you require support to
attend the conference, I would encourage you all to submit abstracts for the
event. During the online submission process, you will be asked whether or
not you require a scholarship, and this will then be considered by the
Executive Programme Committee in December.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me directly
(jamie.bridge (at) ihra.net) and I will be happy to help.
Best regards,
Jamie Bridge
