  Dear Caitlin,

I am very happy for your detail email. I think we have no reason to argue furthere, as far as the
the Liverpool conference is concern. But all you need to do for me, is to guide me get a scholarship to Liverpool.

Please I equally wish to get guidelines to start getting my abstract ready...

Once more, I fancy of  you in this network.

Hello everyone,
It's great to see so much interest on this list serve!
For those of you who do not know me  -I'm the former coordinator of Youth
RISE. I wanted to respond to the emails concerning the cost of the Harm
Reduction conferences. We completely understand - and are in the same
position as you! We are an NGO, led-by young people, and many of our members
(such as yourselves) are students, work in NGOs, or are underemployed.
We are not conference organizers, nor do we have much influence over the
costs associated with this conference. Each year we have advocated for a
lower fee for students and/or young people. We agree that the cost is very
prohibitive, especially for people who have to travel and are from countries
without a dominant currency.
We try to help young people obtain scholarships to this conference, which is
indeed the only way our staff and International Working Group members are
able to attend. This is why we encourage you to submit and abstract or
session idea - because there is more possibilities of getting scholarships
if you are participating in the conference by presenting your work.
I also just wanted to comment on Prince AJONG Christian Fotabong's email on
this subject: "The registration fees for the Liverpool conference is one of
the highest or most expensive youth event I have ever seen in my life." The
registration fee IS very high, but this is not a youth event. The high cost
probably contributes to the reason why there are not more young people there
- however, this event is not designed for or tailored to young people. It is
compromised of doctors, researchers, academics, advocates, drug user
activists, policy reformers, goverment officials etc etc. And we try to get
more young people there!

As Chantale said, the theme of the conference this year is "Harm Reduction:
the Next Generation." We really hope that we can obtain more support for
young people to attend this conference and that we have a diverse selection
of young presenters for the panels and workshops. We're very much looking
forward to your ideas on workshops topics and we can help you with your
abstracts. As I mentioned earlier, we are not the conference organizers nor
are in charge of this event, but we are trying to organize for more youth
involvement and more support for young people to attend.

I hope this clarifies your questions and concerns.

Sincerely,
Caitlin
