Tope Bello sent me an excellent response. I have forwarded it to the group so that everyone may read it. :

CONSULTATION ON EMPLOYMENT FOR GYAN.

NAME:- TOPE BELLO.
AGE :- 30
NATIONALITY:- NIGERIA.
COUNTRY OF RESIDENCE:- NIGERIA.
ORGANIZATION:- YOUTH DISCOVERY AND RE-ORIENTATION (YDRO).

Employment is a measure where those at the labour force are given the opportunity to justify their needs through the provision of substantial work. In the case of employment, the energetic ones are filled with the position of skilled and unskilled job to avoid fall of law and order, this emulates the building capacity in provision of basic needs in order to meet the day to day physical and material demands.

Unemployment is an act where some numbers of labour forces has no access to job and cannot be able to meet their daily needs. Unemployment is a mechanism that sends people to the labour market which always resulted to great oppression and frustration where the individual needs cannot be provided for and individuals cannot be able to meet their day to day demands.

Unlike my previous experience in 2000 when I was out of work and was looking for one, I searched for job everywhere while I was engulfed with poverty. I was introduced to various cruel businesses but I resisted hoping to secure a job one day, also the certificate issues always keep me out of some cheap and petty job opportunity, the ability to hold onto myself resulted to the birth of the Youth Discovery and Re-orientation Organization (YDRO).
One day, I was directed by a friend to apply to an Indian Aluminum Factory on casual because they only accept casual workers without higher certificate.

I had other side of life experience working as casual worker in this factory, I earned below $1.50 per day, the smoke and dust generated from the factory were pouring on us, be became blackish with our clothes while we inhales the dust in bulks. Less than a week, a caught catarrh which later resulted to serious malaria and fever, the drugs given to me are expired drugs it works in other manner which deteriorated my illness. No one could ever come to our aid as series of mechanical accidents took place through the heavy and hyper-functional machineries where the affected workers mainly young people were sent away without benefit render them disabled.
Majority of us were pre-employed which is called casual workers, we weren’t made to be staffs and we are out of further benefits because of the status of our employment. We are always deprived from joining worker union for whosoever attempted to discuss the unionism will loose his/her job.

Employment is very important in Nigeria because several young people have been thrown into labour market where they are languishing in abject poverty. Discrimination of certificates, denial of non Tertiary certificate, casual working, law salary income and delay in payment and job insecurity are the major challenge of employment in Nigeria. 70% of the Nigerian Youth are unemployed which is not the best in the new Globalization policy.
To prepare labour force for employment is to increase in development, Gross Domestic Product and to prevent young people from crime and corruption.

THE STATE OF YOUTH EMPLOYMENT.

The Effect Of Unemployment On youth:- The major effect of unemployment is frustration which can leads to all sort of crime, corruption, poor productivity, dormant or un-harvested talents of skills, brain-drain, economic backdrops e.t.c.

The Situation Of Youth Unemployment In Nigeria:- Its annoying counting on the youth unemployment in Nigeria, the situation is critical where the young hobos has been sent into labour market, some engages in obnoxious activities to earn a living, some indulges in social nuisance like miscreants, bandits, political thugry e.t.c. 60% of Nigerian graduates are unemployed, 35% are under-employed i.e low paid and lack of job security, 5% are adequately employed while youths of low education background roams round the street becoming miscreants in the community because there has been no provision of employment for them. For instance, series of newspaper employment adverts today only seeks for experienced workers like 5, 10, 15 year experience.

EDUCATION.

Education In Nigeria:- Educational standard is greatly falling, the government lacks the ability to adequately fund and control the backdrops of the educational standard;. Nigerian government in the past eight years pumped about 40% of the annul budget on defence while they concentrated so much on oil proceeds leaving other sector going down the drain. Some graduates cannot defend their certificates, but by virtue of connection and a way out, they found themselves filled up the best places or opportunities.
The educational system has been successful in the area of incubating and hatching influx of unqualified graduates, the educational sector has not been successful in producing intellectual that can justify the future challenges.

Educational System In Nigeria Provides Useful And Accurate information On Current Job market?:- Educational system in Nigeria has not in anyway prepares adequate information on current job market, most of the tertiary institutions still possesses the outdated and dormant system of teaching and practice, some students are not informed and exposed to the new globalization system, we all heard and read from the dailies and T.V but has not comprehensively thought at the school level.
In the recent times, some Multinational companies do recruits final year students from the university, but nowadays, they including other corporate organizations banks on students that study abroad for employment.

TRAINING.

There are two or more government training programs well known in training the youth for employment, several other private and non-governmental organizations has initiated series of empowerment programs but we are yet to record a successful story of each. Each programs are being propelled under selective measures, the opportunity hasn’t been thrown to the general public but only with those that attained a certain level of education and can find their way into the director’s or chief executive’s room. Every empowerment in Nigeria are based on connection and the relative to the initiators.

The government agencies like NAPEP, NEEDS e.t.c, has recorded victory to themselves which average people on the road knows nothing about, only to propagate what has never been done, they are the institution used to embezzles tax payers money. All these bodies or training institutions are of self centre program which have met only 1% of the labour force.

MICRO-ECONOMICS AND NATIONAL POLICIES.

It’s a fact that Nigerian government only campaigned for the exclusive Micro and Macro-economic policy in late 2005 where the governor of Central Bank: - Charles Chuwkwuma Soludo urges banks to re-capitalize their asset in order to meet the economic challenge. He brought bank re-capitalization program where the distressed banks went underground while others merged in order to produce a mega bank that will worth of holding local and huge foreign business transactions, this in pursuant of macro-economic system.

He stated that the revolution is of the primary goal to save the banks from possible imminent crisis, to have a system that will minimize corruption and help in the evolution of strong and vibrant banking industry that will compete favourably in a globalised economy of the 21st century. The aim of what he called “Fundamental Revolution”, in the banking sector is to guide the sector against systematic distress, corruption, achieve sound corporate governance, strengthen and consolidate the industry, to create more jobs build banks of 21st century that will take care of the coming generation. This is what he meant on the Macro-economic program.

Micro-economic, the community banks and the just consolidated banks known as mega banks was called on by the CBN Governor to indulge in micro-credit finance in order to reduce the poverty level in the country, he said programs has been put in place with the support of the CBN.
Mainwhile, the Federal Government only initiated programs in talking the abject poverty in the society, The NAPEP for poverty eradication, The NEEDS for economic empowerment and development are yet to record any successful operation in curbing the poverty facing the people predominantly young people. Series of programs heard about but of low or no effect on common man and the youths, some substantial amount of money has been wasted for the use of poverty eradication which we are yet to meet up the desired goal.
The U.N had set the goal of reducing extreme poverty by half of the year 2015; reduction of poverty in Africa was quoted to the year 2040 to meet the UNDP goals. Also in Nigeria, the government only reads from the paper but has not implemented a motion driving program to solve unemployment in Youth; all we had was the paper works. I believe my organization can contributes towards the youth’s employment because it’s what we are based on, in formulating a high standard of job creation opportunity without barriers in certificates.
