Name: CARE AND SUPPORT TO ORPHAN VULNERABLE CHILDREN
Categories: Child & Youth Rights

Description:
The project involves care and support to 50 children with inadequate parental care in Ngie Sub Division. North West Province. The execution strategy is monitored fostering. Children are identified through a baseline study of the project area. Information gathered on the children during the survey is analyzed in collaboration with community partners of the project such as traditional, and religious and the head teachers of the schools benefiting from the support scheme. At the end of this collaborative analysis one child is selected to per vulnerable family to benefit from the support scheme. The identification process is finalized with a collaboration agreement signed between the foster family and GLOWA. The foster family has the responsibility if collaborating with the project staff for the success of the project while GLOWA does the mobilization of resources needed by the project.
Major activities of the project include bi-monthly visits to the vulnerable families. These visits are unannounced and give GLOWA the opportunity of evaluating the effective and sustainable use of material support to the children. It also gives us the chance to build the capacity of foster parents in fostering depending on the problem we shall discover. Further material support to the child is better programmed according to individual needs which the home visits give the field worker the chance to identify.
School fees, books and home-based psychosocial support are also provided.
Primary health care is provided through the Teze Integrate Health canter by organizing free quarterly consultation.
A joint evaluation is organized in July of each year and re-identification campaign organized in August to replace children who no longer belong to the scheme.
