This year marks the first Creating Local Connections Canada/TakingITGlobal Global Gallery Youth and Independent Film Festival to be held June 7th and 8th, 2008 in Ottawa, ON at the University of Ottawa.
With the goal of making contemporary social issues tangible for youth from Ottawa and beyond, the Global Gallery Film Fest uses a unique combination of film screenings and interactive youth workshops to encourage youth to expand their minds and think creatively about their world. This programming is delivered through the establishment of theme blocks, each containing a series of screenings of shorts and features in combination with a Guide to Action workshop.
This year the theme blocks include:
Aboriginal Rights
Poverty
AIDS
Creativity & The Arts
Workshops are co-facilitated by TakingITGlobal staff and local youth leaders that are engaged in the topics being discussed. The Creativity Workshop, which will conclude the festival will help youth and the public learn how to take the idea for a short film to a finished product.
A finalized schedule will be posted shortly.
Submissions will continue to be accepted (from filmmakers anywhere in the world) until June 1st on a first come first serve basis.
