The Ethiopian Youth Activist Network is constituted by the Talent Youth Association, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in collaboration with Advocates for Youth, based in Washington, D.C., as part of Advocates’ International Youth Speak Out (iYSO) Project.

The iYSO project advocates for key stakeholders in Ethiopia and the international community to respond to the need for programs and policies that build an environment that supports the right of youth in Ethiopia to make responsible decisions about their sexual and reproductive health.

In order to do this, TaYA hosts the Ethiopian youth Council for Higher Opportunities (ECHO), which was created to empower young people in Ethiopia to advocate for their own reproductive and sexual health through policy maker education, public awareness-raising, and mobilization of peers to take action.

The council is made up of a group of 8 passionate young people who are working to:

1) Increase access to modern contraceptives for young women between the ages of 15-29; and

2) Secure youth representation in the decision-making process of national policies, program implementation, and evaluation on adolescent reproductive and sexual health.
ECHO, the Talent Youth Association, and Advocates for Youth recognize that POWER that comes in NUMBERS and the power of ONE---the power of YOU!. We need the E-YAN to SPEAK OUT and inform the Ethiopian government, the U.S. government and the global community, at large, to recognize that young people in Ethiopia need to be recognized as leaders in all spheres of society, but particularly in programs and policies relevant to adolescent reproductive and sexual health issues.
