Description:
The Emmanuel Development Association (EDA) is an indigenous non-governmental organization (NGO) that was established in 1996 with the aim of improving the socio-economic situation of children and youth among the most vulnerable and disadvantaged communities in Ethiopia. EDA aspires to see a just Ethiopian society, where the rights of the disadvantaged are honored and where education is used as a catalyst for empowerment.

EDA employs an integrated urban and rural community development program to address the pertinent issues in these communities. Each EDA program addresses three important cross-cutting issues: gender, HIV/AIDS and child rights.

EDA seeks to build the capacity of actors on all levels while specifically empowering concerned stakeholders and target communities. EDA assists marginalized children and youth to become self-supporting and self-reliant citizens by developing and promoting integrated sustainable community development programs in the areas of alternative basic education (ABE), integrated community health, HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness, women’s empowerment, vocational training and income generation. EDA is also committed to advocacy, capacity building and providing basic social services together with the community and local government.

EDA has witnessed great success in reaching marginalized children, youth and women in all of their regional programs and has been awarded with more than 10 Certificate of Recognition from the international donor community, federal and regional governments of Ethiopia, including a UNESCO Certificate of Appreciation, a World Bank Financial Award and a National Certificate of Excellence.
