Building on the successes of the Youth Caucus at CSD-14, this space brings together Singapore environmental organisations and youth, passionate about sustainable development, in preparation for sustainable development themes related to CSD-15: The 15th session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development. Share your thoughts with us so we can bring it to CSD-15! (and back!)

OVERVIEW & OBJECTIVES
This 8-month project aims to link high-level decision-making on climate change and local, grassroots youth action and empowerment. It encompasses the following elements:

• Climate change training/awareness
• Community consultation
• UN youth engagement
• Peer-to-peer education
• Youth/grassroots action


AWARENESS PROGRAM
Workshops on:
i) Climate change: thematic issues
ii) Community action: Civil society efforts on climate change
iii) International policy process: UN CSD and CSD-14/15


COMMUNITY CONSULTATION
• Online consultation on policy priorities, from youth perspective
• Outcomes to inform youth caucus strategy at CSD-15
• Duration: 2 weeks approx


HIGH-LEVEL ENGAGEMENT
Youth rep/s to go to CSD-15, representing the outcomes/recommendations from Sg youth online consultation.

Youth rep/s tasked with :
• Developing Sg youth priorities (with Youth Team) based on consultation outcomes, to be disseminated to consultation participants for final input and consensus (where possible)
• Reporting back on CSD-15 proceedings on near-daily basis, through a blog
• Acting on the priorities where possible at CSD-15
• Post-CSD, bring back learning from the meetings through talks/presentations/forums.


GRASSROOTS ACTION
• At the talks/presentations/forums, these will be the opportunities where other youth suggest ideas for climate
• change action projects.
• After a month of talks following CSD-15, emergent idea/s get showcased at event or workshop.
• Possibility to be a competition. (Optional)
• NEA provides support and funding to the project, and incubate successful/promising proposals, as part of the existing YEE program. This ensures more sustainability as YEE has alumni network, ongoing programs etc. (Optional)

TIMELINE

April 9 - 20 Online consultation
April 21/22 Preparatory workshops. E-consultation findings disseminated. Accepting final inputs for CSD strategy/priorities
April 27 Final inputs due. Strategy finalised and released before CSD.
April 30 - May 11 CSD-15
May Training workshop for Environment Champions as climate change peer educators. Date TBC
May Period for Environment Champions to give talks to peers. Star/end date TBC. Kick-off for Climate Change Project Proposal competition
August Competition proposal submission due date (date TBC)
Nov In conjunction with Clean & Green Week, announce results. Event, media, etc. End of official project
2008 [Optional] NEA to support the implementation of winning proposals from competition (TBC by NEA)
