Sujet: AYCN Thoughts!

  Hi everyone!

Sorry for the delayed response. I'm loving how this is shaping up! Its
hard to stay on top of all the network building activity going on in India
and try to keep tabs on a larger continent (can only handle 1 billion people
at a time!) ;)

Some of the questions raised and concerns are very applicable to the
formative stages of the Indian Youth Network on Climate. But because the
AYCN will be largely online--the online presence is goign to be CRUCIAL for
the formative stages.

I love the idea of e-consultations and cross-cultural capacity building as
was the general sense at the Asian Youth Caucus happening on the sidelines
of Bali. but more specifically policy during COPs and the intermediary
meetings as well. We need to share amongst each other like a min-Asian
youth Climate Action Network (CAN).

As far as getting organizations on board, I can't say that I'm going to take
the time to enter all the names and contacts of all the member groups that
exist within IYCN, but I can say that the AYCN having access to IYCN would
probably include reaching out to hundreds of thousands of other people and
groups. I would suggest that we go about setting up similar networks within
other asian countries (I'm already talking to people in Nepal about a NYCN,
people in Bangladesh about a BYCN, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Maldives, you name
it!). So having these local networks will make it a lot easier to structure
governance and managing of an AYCN rather than having a loose group of
organizations tryign to work it out. Because otherwise, we bring nothing to
the table that the Tunza doesnt already (and pretty soon I'm sure we're
going to not be looked at favorable by them too!).

The same idea exists in the global context. You see "coalitions" or
"networks" coming together to be a part of the International Youth Climate
Network and that keeps it easier to manage.

Just some thoughts! See some of you soon in Poland!! The rest will be missed
:(

cheers,

K

IYCN:
We are the youth of India. Climate change is going to affect OUR future. The
decision makers of today, won't be around in 50 years time to see the
effects of their inaction. Hence we need take the action required to ensure
that our future will be bright, clean and green.
The Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN) is a coalition uniting Indian youth
and Indian youth oriented organizations who are concerned about climate
change. We as the future leaders of the country can generate awareness and
establish consensus on what role India should play in the global debate, and
how it should address domestic issues of climate justice and adaptation. It
is a monumental effort but one with immense potential.

Support. Unite. Share. Engage. Inspire. Change.

Come be a part of something new, something bold: Indian Youth Climate
Network
