Description :
Community Development Service
(Youth Volunteerism)

Overview:

Empowerment and development of any communities are more effective through our supportive hands and hearts. We can be supportive through the essence of volunteering with and for the needy communities and people. Volunteerism makes us experience two-way assistance; we invest our knowledge, skills, energy and time in the field we feel necessary to the host communities and we earn people/communities where we receive new experiences, expertise and enthusiasm working in new environment mixed up with warm welcome and reverence.

We call international youth to contribute for holistic development of Nepali communities. We have developed a unique way to serve Nepali communities and people through your insights of volunteerism. We have prepared important focus area and distinctive locations for you to get engage during your volunteer service. We accept interested, especially youth (16-30 years), to our volunteer programs to serve our communities.

Objectives:

1. Community change action for community Empowerment and Sustainable Development
2. Capacity development of community, national and international youth volunteers

Focus:

Our volunteer programs are targeted to benefit communities through our respected volunteers in following important issues:
1. Education and awareness
2. Youth Development
3. Health (Sexual and Reproductive Health, Public health and Sanitation)
4. Environment Conservation
5. Agriculture
6. Gender equity and Women development

In the above issues, our volunteers can:
1. Teach, train and facilitate (Knowledge sharing and skill transfer)
2. Serve the community works
3. Provide technical and financial assistance
4. Research

Modality:

This focus on human resource investment in partnership between community, national and international youth which integrate different level of youth to serve community effectively and create an environment for youth to learn in multiple ways.

The modality of our volunteer programs heeds in the following modality:

Arrival of the volunteer
Volunteers are required to arrive Nepal on the day from which the volunteers have requested to start their services. Generally, we accept volunteers either group or individual from the first week of a month. We have no restrictions on volunteering months but we advise our volunteers that January to June and September to December are the most appropriate months for conducting volunteer services and sight seeing in Nepal.

Orientation in Kathmandu
The volunteers after arriving in Kathmandu are oriented as per their working period, focus area and working locality. This orientation works as rapport building with the national volunteers, cultural exchange and get-to-know, along with discussion, preparation and planning for the activities in the field. (Please see in the table below)

Departure to the site with national volunteer
The volunteers will be accompanied by the national trained volunteer will depart to the designated site.

Orientation and rapport building with the community
The volunteers after reaching to the site will have extensive interaction, discussion with the host community, family and the host local partner organization. There may be cultural shows and welcome programs. Normally, volunteers spent 1-2 days for the rapport building and getting use-to with the communities. This community interaction/orientation will be helpful for the volunteers from outside the community to create free, fair and friendly environment during their work in the communities.

Action (planning, implementation, mid-evaluation etc)
After knowing the communities, culture and people, volunteers set up their working schedule and start their activities. Before the implementation phase, the volunteers draw an action plan of their stay duration along with the local partner organization, step-by-step guideline of their works, when to have mid-term evaluation etc. After the planning the volunteers start their job for their scheduled period and chosen field of interest and focus.

During the implementation phase of the program, volunteers will go through three-phase sharing and learning. Since, our programs incorporate international, national and community level youth in a common place; we see higher potentialities of generating and exchanging new thoughts and learning. Therefore, our programs have regular discussion or interaction programs in the community among our groups. In these programs there will be discussion and sharing, or trainings on national, international and community level policies, programs and practices.

Return to Kathmandu
After the volunteering period completion, our volunteers will return back to Kathmandu. Generally, the returning will be initiated by the farewell by the communities, thanks giving and exchange of token of love between the volunteers and community people.

Review
The review is one of the most important parts of our program. The volunteers will sit in with our organization team and discuss about various dimensions of our programs. The review is focused in sharing the learning, shortcomings, productivity, effectiveness and improvements of the programs. The volunteers are required to provide an experience report to the organization. Based on the review and report, our organization will provide our volunteers an experience and thanks letter. Sometimes, the end-review program is organized in the volunteering site based on the volunteers’ time and necessities to visit other places.
