notes from yesterday's Youth Network conference call + we need your ideas

Hello!
We need theme suggestions and volunteers to help organize:
- a youth orientation day the day before the next CCR Consultation (so
that would be: December 2nd in Windsor, Ontario)
- a youth-led workshop during the 3-5 December CCR Consultation in
Windsor, Ontario
Send your ideas to Oana at: oanabella (at) gmail.com. She'll be sending you
an email soon.
Here are the notes from yesterday's conference call. Hope that you can
join us for the next one in late September!

Ontario:
New information website for newcomer youth at: www.newyouth.ca
-- Check it out!
Hanna works for the YMCA Newcomer Youth Leadership program in Toronto
Nova Scotia:
Kuol is working closely with sponsored refugees students on many issues,
including reuniting with family members. He has talked about the CCR
Youth Network at local conferences.

*4) Priority Actions and Issues*
*a) Issues and actions that the Youth Network has been working on:***
- /Survey on newcomer youth and priorities/ -- see:
http://ccrweb.ca/en/survey: Taro will explain what it's all about;
please send comments on online survey to Colleen
- /Youth Orientation Guide/ -- Oana is working on this with a small
group. Hanna can provide feedback on it once available; Maybe we can
launch the Guide during the youth meeting on December 1^st (the day
before the CCR Fall Consultation begins)
- /Indigenous issues/ -- how to bring this on the CCR agenda?
o Some possibilities: Consultation workshop?; invite indigenous groups
to CCR Consultations, opportunity in Windsor?
Any updates? Have members from Toronto Community Housing been able to
talk to the CCR committee working on engagement with indigenous groups?
- /Overseas refugee issues and Canadian youth/ -- look at suggestions
following May 2009 workshop
: Need training kit for youth on public engagement; Colleen will look at
possibilities with the Regional Promoters Program
: List -- in section of the CCR Youth Network webpage; in CCR member
online profiles (both of these resources are coming)
: Need youth representatives in all CCR Working Group steering
committees (this is coming. We still need to select a youth
representative for the Immigration and Settlement Working Group)

- Comments from the government/Minister of Citizenship and Immigration
on changes to the refugee system in Canada -- how can/should we respond?

help out.

*5) Administrative Stuff*
- Funding for Youth Network
- Youth and CCR Consultations
- there will be a one-day meeting for youth the day before the start of
the CCR Consultation (in Windsor, on Wednesday, December 2nd 2009). We
will need people to get involved and help to organize it. Who can help?
- Oana will send an email to everyone in the CCR Youth Network asking
for volunteers to be on a planning committee for this one-day meeting on
December 2nd.
- Maybe we can plan a second meeting on December 2nd to decide on plans
to fund the CCR Youth Network and other important issues.
- there is some funding to bring youth the CCR Consultation in
November. If you have ideas of other funding sources, please let us know.
