  Hello everyone,

We are on to week three of the consultation. We must be doing something wrong as the discussion is not picking up. Do you find it vague and unspiring? Are you just too busy? Please do share your thoughts, whatever they may be, as many of you have signed up but are not letting us know what you think about all these messages.

This week is dedicated to discussing Health Care and the Environment related issues. I'll start by asking you if you see a connection between the Internet and such issues. Say you are working in a village in Bolivia such as Jon, does the Information Society provide any information or tools to help daily concerns. Should we be more concerned with provinding the South with facilities such as wells,
roads, clean accessible water than Internet tools?

Maybe we can spin the question around and look at Daniel's comment on empowering communities and showing them how to fish instead of providing them with fish. Acces to and place in the Information Society is power and knowledge. It is a hell of tool for getting access to information about the real power struggles at play in the world, ways to finance
projects, building solidarity campaigns, letting shine trhough what's the real story in your part of the world. Do check out the different Indymedia sites for that. Argentina's Indymedia site (http://argentina.indymedia.org) has helped hundreds of communities groups organize and mobilise. Let's be more ambitious for the south. Let's not only work to provide clean water, many 'unpolitical' consciousness cleaners caritative organisations are doing so but let's
realy think of how we can use this information tool that we have the priviledge of accessing to build and reorchestrate class divisions, poverty and manipulations of all sorts.

And getting back to topic, are we just weirded out techies or do you see a link between the Information Society and health? Do you find a correlation between getting connected and getting healthier?

Could the Information Society also have negative impacts on health and the environment? What would those be for you apart from diminishing eyesight caused by looking too hard at a computer screen?

Let us know....

Alex
