Good afternoon from Winnipeg!
Welcome to the list. While new members continue to trickle in, I
thought I would start off the warm-up period with my own introduction
and expectations of the discussions.
I believe that Information Communication Technologies are an incredibly
important tool for development. Having followed the WSIS process for the
last 6 months, I've had the opportunity to learn about incredible young
people carrying out projects in rural India, Nigeria, the former
Yugoslavia, Brazil and other countries. I would like to get in touch
with and hear from similar young people in Canada, and hear about their
activities, whether they be business ventures, community radio projects,
educational endeavors or other.
In Canada, I'd like to see an Information Society based on human rights
and fundamental freedoms, including freedom of expression, and one where
access to information is affordable and available to everyone,
regardless of age, race, gender, income or geographic location.
I think that issues of education, literacy and inclusion should be
central to any policy programs adopted by our governments. And last,
but not least, I think that locally-produced, multi-lingual (and not
only bi-lingual) content is necessary to reflect the diversity of our
country.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you!
(Just press reply to this or any other message to write to the group.)
Cheers!
