Dear Mr. Edudzie,
I am writing from MIT's Legatum Center for Development and
Entrepreneurship, which was founded to promote entrepreneurship as a
means to bottom-up economic progress and good governance in low-income
countries -- a mission I know we share with Youth Entrepreneurship and
Sustainability Inc. I wanted to share an exciting initiative just
launched by the Legatum Center: our 2nd Annual Photo Contest, seeking
photos of women entrepreneurs working in low-income countries, is now
open for submissions. I think that this contest will be of great
interest to your constituents, and hope that you will help us pass on
the word about this opportunity.
At the Legatum Center, we believe that photography is a powerful tool
to spread the message of economic progress through entrepreneurship
and innovation. Too often, we see images of the poor that show only
desperation and reflect a lack of confidence in the ability of
ordinary citizens to enact change. Through our photo contest, we hope
instead to bring to light stories of empowered women entrepreneurs who
have overcome obstacles to work toward economic progress from the
bottom up. At the Legatum Center, we believe that innovative
technologies can have an important impact on the ability of
entrepreneurs to create sustainable, lasting progress, so we are
looking for photos that show these women using mobile phones and
devices, solar technologies, computers, and other transformative
technologies.
A few details about the photo contest:
>> Winners will receive $500 each and be featured on the Legatum
Center's website, http://legatum.mit.edu
>> Judged by a panel of award-winning photographers and experts in
international development and entrepreneurship
>> Open to all amateur and professional photographers
>> Deadline for submissions: September 13, 2009, 5 pm EST.
