Hi. My name is Jana Kovandzic. I’m 21 years old. I was
born in Belgrade, Serbia, where I live and study
today.
During whole this century people have been migrating
from here, anywhere, just to go. There are not many
migrants to Serbia, except Chinese people.
S1: There are not so many migrants from developed
countries. Migrations are so typical for ,,the third
world,,. Usually young people want to leave because
they can’t get a proper job, despite good education,
or because the country they come from is under some
kind of suppression (example – you can’t get visa to
travel to Europe, but even if you get visa, you don’t
have money). So, in my opinion, the main benefit that
the migrants can get is migration itself. But of
course, the drawback is that they probably can’t speak
their maternal language anymore, they can’t see their
families and friends.
As benefits for host country – they can ,,import,,
educated workers, and they can pay them less money
than then they would pay someone from their own
country. So, they save money, and migrants are still
pleased with their salary, because it’s much more than
they can earn at home. As a drawback of ,,importing,,
workers – host country is usually a developed country.
Statistics show that people from welfare countries
tend to have less children. Opposite is for poor
countries, where it is normal for a family to have to
5 children. Migrants from these poor countries tend to
live the same way as their previous generations, so in
their host countries they will have lots of children.
Also, statistics show that European nations are
dieing. My conclusion is that the host countries will
eventually loose their identity.
Some countries find it beneficial when people migrate
from it. Like China, that has too big growth of
population, much more than it can handle. I think
that, now, almost every city on the planet has a
Chinatown. Small nations, such as for example Serbian,
have problems with too many people leaving. But, right
now, Serbia doesn’t have too much to offer, so people
are still leaving their homes, in a search for better
tomorrow.
In the end, who has most benefits from migrations? I
think that it would be jumping to conclusions if I
choose any of those. It depends much of a situation.
S2: There are not many migrants to Serbia. Only
Chinese people, but I know that they have their own
kindergartens and schools.
About trafficking and abuse – people have to be more
informed, and mass media is the best way to do it,
true talk shows or educative program. Also, lectures
in schools are very useful.
S3:
I believe that a serious country should never relay
itself on remittances. Better to grow an effective
economy. Remittances are short term flows. But for
now, it seams that more than one half of incomes of
developing countries comes precisely from remittances.
