Youth Organization 411 Celebrates 2nd Year Anniversary: Hosts Event to Engage Youth In The Celebration of Multiculturalism &
Diversity In Toronto
Free / All-Ages / June 29, 2006
Toronto - (June 19, 2006) The 411 Initiative For Change - Canada's leading
youth organization working to involve the arts and cultural industries in
creating solutions to contemporary social issues, announced today the
presentation of their second annual concert geared towards engaging young
people in the celebration of Multiculturalism & Diversity on June 29th,
2005. This free all-ages event will be held at the El Mocambo (464 Spadina
Avenue). Headlining the concert are Canadian songstress Melanie Durrant,
Juno Award-nominated artist Eternia and Rochester aka Juice. Other artists
slated to perform include Masia One, Dwayne Morgan, DJ Dopey, and DJ Grouch.

By showcasing a diverse line up of Canadian performers, this event provides
youth with an opportunity to recognize the contributions of ethnocultural
and minority communities to Canadian society and to celebrate Toronto's rich
cultural diversity.
"This type of programming is of crucial importance as Toronto is the most
ethnically diverse city in the world," explains The 411 Initiative For
Change's Executive Director Tamara Dawit. "Our event aims to strengthen
social cohesion and cultural understanding among young people by addressing
timely issues such as self-esteem, racism, and identity."
This event marks the Two Year Anniversary of The 411 Initiative For Change,
a national not-for-profit organization run by and for young Canadians,
recognizing its achievements in creating innovative solutions to community
development challenges - with nationwide programs reaching over 100,000
young Canadians in the last year.
"The spread of racism, discrimination and prejudice can be thwarted by the
combined efforts of young Canadians. Through programs like this event, 411
hopes to empower young people with the knowledge that they can effect change
through their own initiatives, in their communities across Toronto,"
advocates Dawit.
