Hi all,
This will be my first juicer (since I wasn't able to make the last one)
so I look forward to meeting everyone.
I work with the Maytree Foundation (www.maytree.com) and our interaction
with youth is limited to our scholarship program. The Maytree
Scholarship program is a scholarship for Protected Persons (formerly
known as Convention Refugees) between the ages of 18-25 years who are
attending, or will be attending a post secondary school (university or
college) in Toronto. It covers tuition, books, transportation and a
living allowance. Since 1999, Maytree has funded over 100 students. As
well, since August 1, 2004 Protected Persons are now eligible for both
the federal and provincial portion of Canada Student Loans (a lot of
people don't know this!). These students will be charged domestic rates
by the Colleges and Universities. FYI: The deadline for the scholarship
has passed.
We recently started an alumni association and managed to raise over a
$1000 for Protected Persons attending post secondary institutions for
the year 2006-2007. Most bursaries and grants at post secondary schools
require that a student's status be Permanent Resident, effectively
excluding students with Protected Person status. The Maytree Alumni
bursary would help those students finance some of their post secondary
education and at the same time allow the alumni to come together and
give back to the community. So if any of you work with students with
that status please inform them about the bursary. The guidelines and
application forms are available at www.maytreealumni.com. The deadline
is July 31, 2006.
Thanks and see you next Tuesday!

Hey all -
I'd like to postpone Wednesday's Juicer until Tuesday, June 13th, since
alot of people have let me know they're not available.
Let me know if you're able to make next Tuesday instead!
