Hey all -

It's that time again! Pull out your calendars!

We will be meeting on Wednesday, June 7th at 6 pm at Tortilla Flats. I'll
snag a spot on the (covered) patio in the hopes that we'll still be enjoying
this hot and humid weather a week from now. Important to note - Wednesdays
at The Flats means $2.75 domestic beer! Perfect for the budget of the
non-profit worker! The Flats is at 458 Queen St W, one block west of Spadina
on the corner of Augusta and Queen St W.

This month I'd like us to all come together with some ideas on how we work
together! Since the inaugural get-together, YCI has worked with PYO a couple
of times. We've been able to use their meeting rooms to host a pre-departure
session and we've also had some youth from PYO speak to some of our out-going
Volunteers who will be working in Africa with PLWHA.

YCI is going to be running a project to Grenada in the fall in which
scholarships will be made available to youth Volunteers who are either of
Caribbean descent or involved in a youth-serving organization. So, I'll be
sending out some information to group members soon about how they can get
their clients/volunteers/members involved with this Grenada project. Do you
know of particular organizations I should get in touch with? Has anyone ever
created scholarship criteria before?

Have you got any ideas on how we can work together? Perhaps your
organization is going to be working overseas soon and needs some advice on
sending youth into an area where DFAIT currently has a travel warning for?
What if you're setting up the Canadian branch of an international
student-led organization with the minimum of guidance from the head-office
in Australia? Do you need some help in creating a mailing list to recruit
some Volunteers or members for your organization?

PS - Has anyone else applied and been approved for funding from HRSDC for a
Summer Careers Placement? I'm STILL waiting to hear from them!!!

Hope to see you all next Wednesday!

Cheers,

Rebecca Lee

(sent from my colleague Amanda's e-mail, since my computer is being used by
a Volunteer. We now have more staff and volunteers than we do workspaces!)
