Resource Centre
Greetings,
I am contacting you as your local elected provincial representative to
invite you to take part in a community initiative.
On Saturday, May 27th, 2006 the Community Safety Roundtable is holding an
Opportunities Fair to provide information to Flemingdon-Thorncliffe
residents about government services, employment resources, volunteerism, and
future opportunities for youth and new Canadians. We are all very excited
about this event and would very much like your organization to attend as an
exhibitor. A number of organizations have been contacted to participate by
providing information kiosk displays and representatives available to speak
to the public.
Although we continue to live in one of the safest cities in the world, there
can be no denying that there is a portion of youth in the city that is at
risk. In Don Valley West we have many vibrant, diverse neighbourhoods. In
November 2005, community leaders and citizens from Thorncliffe Park and
Flemingdon Park came together to discuss opportunities and strategies for
youth engagement. This was the premier meeting of the Community Safety
Roundtable.
Flemingdon Park and Thorncliffe Park are communities that face a number of
challenges, including high youth unemployment and a high proportion of new
Canadians also seeking employment. For many families in these
neighbourhoods, it is difficult to make the connections necessary in a new
country to find developmental opportunities for themselves and their
children. If your business will be providing employment, education,
volunteerism, mentorship, or leadership opportunities for students or
newcomers and you would like to engage with the local community, we would
welcome you and your organisation at our event.
The Fair will be held in the Gymnasium of the Flemingdon Resource Centre, 29
St. Dennis Drive, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 27th. Entry is
free. Set-up will occur from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. A staff member from my
constituency office will contact you to confirm your ability to participate.
I look forward to your participation.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Wynne, MPP
Don Valley West.
