Sujet: FW: Help sponsor a local child for the Holidays
Envoyé: Nov 16th, 2006 - 11:05:01

  Hello Youth Connect

Im not generally one for projects like this since they aren't really aiming
at long term solutions of ending poverty but my gut tells me that I should
participate in this project. Anyone else want to participate? I was told
that the cost is roughly $100 per child so maybe we could all chip in and
each wrap a different gift for them.

Any interest? Maybe you know of a program similar to this that you would
prefer we participate in.

Dan

From Elaine Davis:

I am an Elf Station manager in the Elves Program under the direction of
Bill Alberta. This program was established in 1991 by CALS, headed by
Bill Alberta, to help needy children in area school districts have a
brighter holiday season.

This year, I have more than 40 needy children from the Newark Valley
School District that I need sponsors (an Elf). Many of you have
participated in the past and I hope that you will continue again this year.

If you are interested in becoming one of many Elves and sponsoring one
of my needy children, you can select your child. I will provide you
with a profile sheet indicating clothing sizes and interests for the
child, along with a checklist of items needed and shopping guidelines
and any other information you would like about the program. To pick a
child that you would like to sponsor, check my office door (Rm 431
Kennedy) for the names and ages of the children and then let me know who
you are interested in.

*Who Are The Elves?
*Caring people from across the Cornell campus and the community beyond
who participate in a program that helps truly needy children during the
winter holidays. Anyone can participate!
*
How Does The Program Work?
*Nurses and social workers at area elementary schools identify the
children who are in greatest need. Using a "profile sheet" supplied by
The Elves, they provide information on each boy and girl - first name,
age, sizes, and toy preferences. Elf leaders distribute the profiles to
individuals, families, or office groups who want to sponsor a child.
Sponsors (Elves) then purchase and wrap the gifts, making sure that each
child receives every item on a special checklist: socks, underwear, a
new outfit, pajamas, a hat & gloves, and a toy (all gifts are new).
Elves deliver the bags of gifts to the school where they are picked up
by parents or delivered to the homes. The anonymity of the children and
their parents is protected.

Gifts will be due to my office on Friday, December 15th. Thanks.
