1. Discussion on the Psychology of change - New Date - Tuesday 1st July

Developing a recipe for effective cultural change programs in higher
education workplaces.
When: Tuesday July 1st
Where: Conservation Council - 3 Childers Street (between the street
theatre and ANU accommodation) from 6pm to 7pm.

A workshop to be presented by Clare Lawlor, Coordinator SEE
Sustainability (at) Work Program, ANU (happy to co-present with someone f=
rom
another institution if others are interested).
While much can be achieved to reduce the environmental impact of
organisations through the introduction of technologies, such as green
building design, recycling machines and power save technology, these
systems only achieve their environmental impact improvement potential =
if
people utilise them properly. Therefore, for organisations genuinely
interested in reducing their ecological footprint, many have chosen to=

establish a community behaviour change program.
The original Green Office Program format at the ANU centered around
recruiting interested volunteer `green reps=B4 from across campus in a=

variety of workplaces (labs and offices) to spend approximately 1 hour=

per week, with permission of management, to promote environmentally
friendly workplace practices. Green Reps disseminate environmental tip=
s,
attend workshops with other green reps to share experiences and increa=
se
understanding of environmental issues, and facilitate an environmental=

assessment process once a year to measure how well they=B4re progressi=
ng
regarding sustainability.
Feedback from Green Reps and ANUgreen=B4s own reflection on the progra=
m
over the years has highlighted key changes required to make the progra=
m
more effective. These changes have been incorporated into the revised
Green Office program, now known as SEE Sustainability (at) Work.
Key changes include:
=B7Increasing top down support
=B7More in person visits by ANUgreen to workplaces to talk about
campus sustainability
=B7FUN
=B7Greater emphasis on building personal relationships with
participating areas
=B7Focus on empowering green reps and their workplaces to manage
their own environmental performance via relevant training, resources a=
nd
initiatives, with support from ANUgreen.
=B7Broadening incentives to participate for Green Reps - training
is considered professional development.
=B7Engaging students in workplace sustainability through
internships program.
Workshop aim:
* Develop a recipe for effective cultural change programs
* Participants would work in small groups, brainstorm (and share
experiences), order ideas, and present to group, to hopefully generate=
an
overall recipe.

2. Getting it together in changing the world
Nature and Society Forum Workshop
7.30-9.30 Emeritus Faculty ANU, Wednesday 18th June 2008
Facilitators: Valerie Brown, John Harris and Wendy
Rainbird
Theme: Whole-of-community involvement in transformational change.
This will be an interactive workshop on collective thinking and action.
The workshop has been applied to bring together the areas of health
promotion, community development, environmental management, professional
extension, and strategic planning, in communities all over Australia.
These are the areas of action required if we are to achieve NSF's mission
of healthy people on a healthy planet.
To achieve effective whole-of-community change, all of these fields will
need to pool their distinctive contributions. Individual change agents,
community interests, specialised advisors, organisationalpower-
brokersand holistic or integrative thinkers will need to be work
together over the long term in any effective sustainability program. The
workshop will involve all participants in designing a sustainability
action plan for climate change in the ACT. The plan will be based on
creating synergies between these interests in a collective social
learning spiral.
