  Dear friends,
Happy New Year! to you all.
I was excited and inspired to read of the project updates at the end
of last year. The ACT OTHERWISE workshop sounded fantastic and the
project ideas are awesome. Out of interest the Sustainable Rock
Concert idea also came up at the Australian Youth Climate Change
Coalition summit in November, parhaps we could facilitate some
linkages there. You might want to refer them to the website of one of
my fave bands, Pearl Jam, they have plans to be rocking in a carbon
neutral world http://www.pearljam.com/activism/carbon.php
My main reason for sending this email is in regard to the Otesha book
'Junk to Funk' that I mentioned on our teleconference in November.
In brief the Junk to Funk book was created by the Otesha project as
an inspiration and action resource for youth and yep! it's funky. It
has several chapters, with each focussing on a different aspect of
our daily lives; water use, clothing choices, tranport etc.
I ordered 20 copies last year and have just 8 left after selling a
few more of them recently. The Otesha crew gave them to me for cost
price, $12.50, and I'd be happy to post one out to anyone who would
like a copy. If you're not sure about getting a hard copy then you
can check it out first by downloading a low resolution PDF version
from the Otesha website www.otesha.ca
Through the Cycle for Sustainability we gathered contact details for
several others who are interested in creating an Australian version
of Junk to Funk. In presenting this to the Otesha team they informed
me that a UK group have just received funding to develop Otesha style
projects in the UK and part of this will include the development of
an international Junk to Funk book. Some international collaboration
on this would be amazing and our efforts in creating sustainability
action briefs would be quite complimentary. I'll be talking with the
Otesha crew soon to get more details and will pass on the ideas and
opportunities to come from our conversation.
On the near horizon I plan to be at the Sustainable Living Festival,
Feb 17-19, in Melbourne and will also be doing a YouthLEAD
facilitators training course soon after that.
I hope you're all feeling inspired to achieve some great things in
2007 and I look forward to sharing more soon.
Yours for the future
