Great Idea! Potluck Action Network a COMMUNITY-BUILDING OPPORTUNITY

Potluck Action Network - Start a Local Group
http://www.potluckactionnetwork.org/

In the Potluck Action Network, we're building a network of thousands of
potluck groups across the country, meeting in each other's homes on a
regular basis for the long term, to plan and experience active civic
engagement. Each person in each potluck group of twelve commits to doing one
progressive action of their own choosing per month, while discussing it and
getting feedback from the other members of the group at the potlucks.

Designed for members of every age, from ten through college through
retirement, our groups have no leader but instead are guided by a "Chef" in
the group, whose action focus is to ensure group continuity, inform the
network of the group's progress, and keep everyone meeting regularly, happy,
engaged, and well fed. Each potluck group purposely works on a self-chosen
set of topics, ensuring that each member stays interested and able to
influence the directions and successes of the potluck group.

INTERNATIONALLY – AU NIVEAU INTERNATIONAL

Earth Day Network’s Climate Change Live Chat

What is the Live Chat?

Earth Day Network is compiling a panel of world-renowned climate change
experts who are willing to interact with high school and college students on
this pressing and complex issue. The event will be a spectacular
opportunity for students to have their questions and concerns about climate
change addressed by the people who are closest to the issue. Classes
selected to participate will send in a number of questions prior to the
event and, in addition, will be able to submit questions to the panel while
the event is in progress. The chat will be broadcast live over the internet
via a state-of-the-art webcast of television quality. Through this medium,
classrooms around the world that are unable to interact directly with the
panelists will still be able to watch the event live. The only technology
requirement is an internet connection.

Where and When?

The live chat will take place in Washington, DC at George Washington
University on Friday, April 21, 2006 at 1:00pm eastern time and will go
until 3:00pm. The event will be broadcast live, but will also be
subsequently available for download from the Earth Day Network website,
www.earthday.net .

How To Participate?

High school teachers and college professors who are interested in having
their classes participate in the live chat should send an email to
education (at) earthday.net with the subject “Climate Change Live Chat”, and
should include in the body of the email their school’s name and address and
the grades and subjects they teach. More detailed information about
accessing the webcast on April 21 will be available at a later date.

Take Action!
Support RiverSides Request for Review of Ontario Regulation 339
Join RiverSides campaign for the source protection of Ontario’s drinking
water and freshwater ecosystems against the inherent threats posed by
excessive use of road salts. Road salts were classified as an
environmentally toxic substance under the Canadian Environmental Protection
Act (1999) in December 2001. But despite this irrefutable scientific
evidence, the federal government chose not to impose mandatory legal
requirements for the management of road salts storage, application or snow
disposal. To protect Ontario’s drinking water and fresh water ecosystems,
RiverSides submitted an Application for Review under Ontario’s Environmental
Bill of Rights, 1993 on January 30th, 2006. The application requests
Environment Minister Laurel Broten to immediately revoke Regulation 339 and
to replace it with a phased-in road salts management regime under the
Environmental Protection Act. The MOE has 60 days from receipt of our
application to decide whether or not a review of Regulation 339 is required.
Please show your support now by sending a letter to Minister Broten stating
your support for the RiverSides Request for Review and the elimination of
Regulation 339. For more information, visit
http://www.lowsaltdiet.org to download a sample letter of support.

sustainability. Robert Bateman would like students to write about how they
would like to see the Earth in the future and what they are doing to ensure
it ends up that way. All writing entries will be collected by Simon Fraser
University students and added to a database for research, with hopes of
determining how young Canadians view the future of our planet.

The 2006 Contest launched on March 2nd and will run through April 22-EARTH
DAY. We are focusing on participation this year and are offering all schools
who enter more than 100 entries the following great prizes: (1) a Gettoknow
print signed by Robert Bateman; (2) a one year subscription to Nature
Canada's magazine; (3) a one year subscription to the Canadian Wildlife

non-violent direct action with the community of Grassy Narrows. We seek
dedicated activists, writers, photographers, videographers, and techies with
