One Tonne Project for Youth in the Prairies

University of Manitoba Cyclists Association (UMCA)
Project :
Through creating and maintaining a bike repair space/cyclist meeting space
UMCA will provide student cyclists with the skills for maintaining
self-sufficient, pollution free transportation. They also hope to fix up a
fleet of 20 donated bikes for rental on campus by anyone who needs a bike.

Great Idea! Potluck Action Network a COMMUNITY-BUILDING OPPORTUNITY
Potluck Action Network - Start a Local Group

In the Potluck Action Network, we're building a network of thousands of
potluck groups across the country, meeting in each other's homes on a
regular basis for the long term, to plan and experience active civic
engagement. Each person in each potluck group of twelve commits to doing one
progressive action of their own choosing per month, while discussing it and
getting feedback from the other members of the group at the potlucks.
Designed for members of every age, from ten through college through
retirement, our groups have no leader but instead are guided by a "Chef" in
the group, whose action focus is to ensure group continuity, inform the
network of the group's progress, and keep everyone meeting regularly, happy,
engaged, and well fed. Each potluck group purposely works on a self-chosen
set of topics, ensuring that each member stays interested and able to
influence the directions and successes of the potluck group.

Rooftops Canada: 2006 YOUNG PROFESSIONAL INTERN PROGRAM
An excellent opportunity for new and recent graduates from your university
aged 19 to 30 that are interested in working overseas. We are recruiting 8
interns for 6-month internships in South Africa, Cameroon, Tanzania, Egypt,
India, or the Philippines. The internships will start in July or August
2006. This internship program is part of the Government of Canada's Youth
Employment Strategy, facilitated by CIDA's Youth Action Division. Each
intern receives a stipend to cover travel and living expenses for the
six-month overseas placement. The deadline for applications is Friday, April
14th, 2006.

Resolve it! National Youth Conflict Resolution Symposium
YOUCAN is offering an amazing deal for youth and chaperones to attend our
5th National Youth Conflict Resolutio Symposium called Resolve It! 2006 in

room for 400 youth from across Canada. We will fly the youth in from
anywhere in the Nation to help them have the experience of a lifetime.
Art and Writing Contest
The art theme focuses on Backyard Neighbours and the writing will focus on
sustainability. Robert Bateman would like students to write about how they
would like to see the Earth in the future and what they are doing to ensure
it ends up that way. All writing entries will be collected by Simon Fraser
University students and added to a database for research, with hopes of
determining how young Canadians view the future of our planet.
The 2006 Contest launched on March 2nd and will run through April 22-EARTH
DAY. We are focusing on participation this year and are offering all schools
who enter more than 100 entries the following great prizes: (1) a Gettoknow
print signed by Robert Bateman; (2) a one year subscription to Nature
Canada's magazine; (3) a one year subscription to the Canadian Wildlife
Federation's WILD magazine; (4) a wild gift pack from the World Wildlife

Earth Justice Action Summer!
Intern with Rainforest Action Network and ForestEthics
This Summer, Rainforest Action Network and ForestEthics will select a team
of individuals interested in learning to live, organize, and take
non-violent direct action with the community of Grassy Narrows. We seek
dedicated activists, writers, photographers, videographers, and techies with
a commitment to social and ecological justice. You will make an investment
in your skills, participate in regular trainings and gain experience in
grassroots organizing, media, and non-violent civil disobedience and
campaign strategy. You will learn about the Boreal Forest, indigenous rights
issues and traditional knowledge while taking action for a just and
sustainable future. In addition to a great summer of education and
action, interns are encouraged to organize within their own communities to
help build the network working for indigenous rights and forest defense in
Ontario. Earth Justice Action Summer is a unique opportunity to meet new
people who share your values, support and learn from a First Nations
community resisting industrial development and trying to develop a forward
looking development paradigm in their traditional territory. The skills
and experience you gain will help you to organize in your own community, and
provide valuable skills and experience for possible employment in the public

Earth to Rosie: Volunteers needed to bring the Little Earth Charter to
schools
Earth to Rosie is a web-based project which is aimed at 4-8 year olds.

Call for teaching RESOURCES on sustainability:
Learning for a Sustainable Future is creating a searchable database for
reviewed Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) resources on the Green
Street website (www.green-street.ca ). ESD
resources are defined as print and audio/visual resources that teachers use to
facilitate engaging activities (without a special guest being present to
help facilitate).
For the Pilot phase, they are looking for resources that: address grades
6-8; are in English; address the following themes:
-Food/ Agriculture (e.g. composting, pesticides, biotechnology, local food
consumption)
-Land Use and Natural Resources (e.g. sustainable urbanization,
transportation, habitat restoration, forestry, mining, recreation)
-Governance and Citizenship (e.g. individual actions, global conventions,
democracy, lifestyle analysis, media, )

TORONTO: GROWING UP XX Film Festival
Growing Up XX will be hosting the first ever International XX Film festival
for girls and young women in Toronto. The focus of the film festival: Girls
and young women behind the camera in positions of directors, producers,
editors etc
Participants are under 25 years of age or first-time women directors of any
age.

The St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences with various

You can nominate an individual or group (including special categories for
youth and lifetime achievement) for actions that are innovative, effective,
caring or daring to help protect the unique natural spaces and species of
Carolinian Canada.
Your hero may, for example, have produced an inspiring publication, held an
awesome event, created exceptional outreach tools, wrote an astounding piece of
conservation journalism, saved significant lands, restored critical
habitat, helped neighbours in conservation stewardship, developed key
policy, protected important water sources, rallied for natural areas, saved
a species at risk
An Individual Nominee may be a dedicated landowner, stakeholder,
professional or volunteer who has acted above and beyond expectations. A
Group Nominee may be non-profit, a government agency, business, industry,
media or partnership that has integrated conservation into new areas or made
great strides for nature. A Youth Nominee may be a young person, youth group
or youth program that is active in protecting Carolinian Canadas unique
nature. A Lifetime Achievement Nominee may be an individual or group that
has shown exceptional commitment over many years to advance conservation

EVERGREEN Grant Program
Evergreen is pleased to announce its 2006 grant program offered to community
groups across Canada working on urban naturalization and community gardening
projects on public lands. Our grants support the restoration and stewardship of
urban habitats such as woodlands, meadows and wetlands.
