Dear Members of Youth for Entrepreneur Development:
My name is Doreen Lwanga I am a member of "Taking it Global" and very
impressed with youth activism towards the Milleniusm Development
Goals and other global youth discussions. I am working with the
Southern Africa Youth Leadership Institute (SAYLI) with office in the
United States and South Africa, in organizing a youth summit in
Johannesburg, South Africa in May 2006.
The purpose of my e-mail to you is to seek your assistance in
identifying and/or recommending youth and youth organizations in your
country and other SADC Countries for the upcoming Southern Africa
Youth Leadership Institute summit in Johannesburg South Africa, May
2006. SAYLI aims to strengthen and supplement the efforts of young
social entrepreneurs who are already committed to achieving the UN
Millennium Development Goals in Southern Africa. SAYLI works
especially in four thematic areas: HIV/AIDS, Poverty, Women
Empowerment and Environmental Sustainability. We are looking for SADC
youths who are engaged in enterprising work in any of those areas and
would be delegates at the Summit in May 2006 as they relate to social
entrepreneurship. We would like youths who are involved with cultural
or traditional institutions, church groups, NGOs, student leadership
and national activities.
We would greatly appreciate if interested persons would tell us more
about themselves, share with us information on their offices, and
other youth organizations in SADC they collaborate with whose
projects also correlates with the thematic operations of SAYLI. We
would also appreciate if you could provide us with names of
individuals whom you are familiar with between the ages of 18-35 that
you believe would add a great voice to the upcoming summit who are
engaged in formidable youth work for social enterpreneurship and
would suitably represent the youth agenda in SADC at a regional
forum. We seek a diverse group of youths from among Church groups,
cultural or traditional institutions, social/civil society and
education. Please do let us know if you are also interested and
available to participate in the youth summit at the end of May 2006.
As SAYLI seeks to compliment rather than duplicate youth activities
in SADC countries, we believe that working with already established
organizations enables us to channel our resources much more
effectively and satisfactorily. Please do understand that this is an
informal introduction to you, once we know what your activities are
and your availability, we would send you further details so that you
can help us better plan the summit.
We would appreciate to hear from you at your earliest convenience as
we are trying to work around an upcoming deadline. Please do not
hesitate to contact me should you seek further clarity or should you
request that i identify myself much more clearly. For your
information, SADC countries include: Angola, Botswana, Democratic
Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique,
Namibia, Republic of South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and
Zimbabwe
