Peace Child International, Hertfordshire, UK –Writer /Editor Editor
TUNZA Peace Child International (PCI), a youth-led development and
educational charity with consultative status at the United Nations, seeks a
full-time motivated editor/writer to join its team of international interns
for 12 months, starting June 2006. You’ll be working primarily on the
planning and production of TUNZA magazine, the United Nations Environment
Programme’s (UNEP) quarterly youth publication. You’ll work closely with
our publisher in Cambridge and the PCI designer to plan the layout, content
and overall direction for the magazine from the ground up – from
researching key themes, pitching story ideas to writing and commissioning
articles. Some international travel (to conferences and meetings) is a
distinct possibility! You will be researching and writing many of the
stories yourself. In addition to your work with TUNZA, you’ll be given many
opportunities to contribute to PCI’s other projects. These could include:
environmental education outreaches to British schools; preparations for the
4th World Youth Congress 2008; production of promotional and informational
literature; fundraising activities for our field offices and development
projects overseas, etc. We are a flexible, informal organisation – so
you’ll be prepared to be flexible, creative and pitch in wherever you can.
This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring young journalists interested
in a career in newspapers, magazines and broadcasting. You’ll be given as
much responsibility as you can handle, and will end the year with a
portfolio of published work from the four issues of the magazine. This
position is a residential internship located in Hertfordshire, UK. Communal
accommodation, food, domestic travel expenses and a small weekly stipend are
provided. You’ll definitely have enough to live on, but your real gains will
be in work experience, contacts and personal development. For more
information about PCI, please visit our website at www.peacechild.org . To
