MANILA, June 10, 2009

Dear WGNRR members,

The Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR) is widely known
for its efforts towards women’s reproductive and sexual health and rights
(RSHR) through participatory and gender-sensitive information, advocacy and
action campaigns.

Since the WGNRR Members Meeting in India in 2005, WGNRR has tried to
organize at least one Regional Consultation Meeting (RCM) per year in order
to meet the high demand of network members for face-to-face meetings. An RCM
has already been organised twice in Africa and once in Latin America &
Caribbean. In 2009 it is logically Asia’s turn to host a RCM, especially in
the light of the 5th Asia and Pacific Conference on Reproductive and Sexual
Health and Rights which will take place in Beijing on October 18-20, 2009.
WGNRR chooses to link its RCMs to Global Events taking place in the region
in order to provide WGNRR members with an opportunity for extensive
networking and exposure to new insights and experiences.

*THE PURPOSE OF THE RCM IS* to strengthen linkages between WGNRR’s members
both in Asia and Pacific to facilitate networking and to bring their RSHR
issues, with specific focus on “ICPD+15”, to the global development agenda.

*The RCM for Asia and Pacific will take place from 15-17 October 2009 in
Beijing, China.*

* *

*The 5th Asia and Pacific Conference on Reproductive and Sexual Health and
Rights (5th APCRSHR) will take place from 18-20 October 2009 in Beijing,
China.*

WGNRR plans to be present at the conference along with the members
participating in the RCM.

The draft RCM program below is divided into three days. The detailed
elaboration of the program will take place in August 2009 in the form of
on-line wiki page discussion. All participating members and guests will be
offered a chance to make an input by stating priorities in setting the
agenda of the meeting. **

* **DRAFT RCM PROGRAM*

*Day 1: Reproductive Justice, Not Population Control!*

* *

The aim of this day is to facilitate mutual learning by sharing experiences
and information on social justice, population policies and harmful
traditional practices, amongst members present, in order to develop a
regional position on ICPD +15 Plan of Action.

*Day 2: WGNRR advocacy campaigning strategies*

* *

The second day of the meeting will be dedicated to the discussion of the
WGNRR Consolidated Advocacy, Networking and Communications Campaign Plan and
elaboration of the regional position statement in ICPD +15.

*Day 3: WGNRR Strategic Issues*

The morning of the last day will be used to present the WGNRR’s MDG/HeRWAI
toolkit through general presentation and experience sharing by WGNRR
members. The second part of the day is designated for general discussion of
WGNRR strategic issues in order to facilitate involvement of Asia and
Pacific members in WGNRR’s policy work and activities. This will secure the
diversity of opinions and representation in WGNRR’s work.

*APPLICATION PROCESS & FUNDING CONDITIONS*

* *

WGNRR aims to provide as many members as possible with an opportunity to
participate in the RCM, which is the main networking event of the year. The
meeting will unite active grassroots women’s groups from Asia and Pacific
countries as well as long established INGOs of strategic importance.

All WGNRR members in the *Asia and Pacific, including Central Asia* region
are invited to apply to attend the RCM. Taking into account the limited
available funds and the diverse nature and funding capabilities of
participating organisations, with the desire to accommodate as many
applicants as possible, we have developed a number of criteria which will
assist us in sharing the available resources as fairly and effectively as
possible

Any WGNRR member is welcomed to attend the RCM for Asia and Pacific using
their own financial means. For those members who request financial
assistance to attend the RCM, WGNRR will consider the financial background
of applying organisations and individuals in making an offer for financial
support. We require that all those applying for financial assistance for
travel costs also make applications for travel grants with other funding
agencies. We will provide a list of funding agencies and our full assistance
in making such applications. If you are successful in obtaining a travel
grant or can cover your own travel costs, WGNRR will assist in lodging and
other expenses. We will prioritise the smaller, grassroots organisations for
full financial support. We ask that you carefully consider whether you can
contribute to the costs of attending the RCM when filling in the attached
forms.

*CRITERIA TO QUALIFY FOR GRANTS: *

· Applicant’s organisation is a member of Asia and Pacific region
operating in Asia and Pacific.

· Applicant is a representative of her or his organisation
(endorsement required).

· Applicant’s organisation focuses on RSHR of women.

· Applicant’s organisation works at national, grassroots or
community level.

· Applicant’s organisation advocates for and/or represents
populations that are socially, politically, economically, or culturally
excluded.

· Applicants are requested to prepare papers and/or presentations on
the successes and obstacles they presently encounter with their work on
RSHR. Note that *the application form should include an abstract of the
presentation/paper* they will share during the RCM. This abstract should not
be longer than 100 words.

· Applicant tries to obtain a travel grant from other sources.

*SELECTION PROCESS*

A panel will consider the applications for financial support and in choosing
those accepted will aim to achieve a diversity of organizations and issues
represented in the RCM. The decision of the panel is final.

The deadline to receive applications is on *July 15*. Preferably send the
application by e-mail to: rcm (at) wgnrr.org, by fax: + 63 (2) 911 8293 or by
post (see the Application Form). Together with this letter you are receiving
the Application Form
, Funding
Assistance Form , Possible
Funding Source Informationand
the Sample
Letter for Funding Request .
You can also download these forms including the possible funding source
information and sample letter for funding from our website at www.wgnrr.org.

*Only completed applications (including abstracts) will be considered in the
process*. Selected candidates will be notified by the end of July 2009. The
date to submit the full presentation/paper for the accepted participants is
on August 15. Selected presentations will be included in a final report.

WGNRR is most excited about this wonderful opportunity to meet our members
in the Asia and Pacific region. We also believe that it will be a wonderful
opportunity to participate at the 5th Asia and Pacific Conference on RSHR
with a large group of WGNRR members.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Beijing!

Warm greetings,

Kathy Mulville
