Description:
Invitation to Participate
E-consultation to set the advocacy agenda for the Toronto YouthForce - April 2-21, 2006

As you may be aware, Toronto will host the XVI International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2006) from August 13th – 18th, 2006. AIDS 2006 is the largest conference on a single health issue, with 20,000 researchers, government leaders, community workers, activists and people living with HIV/AIDS expected. It will play a critical role in setting the agenda for global response to the HIV pandemic.

Young people – especially young women - are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS, representing over 50% of new HIV infections occurring annually. However, young people are often excluded and/or marginalized in the global response. The International AIDS Conference (IAC) is a crucial opportunity for youth to advocate to decision-makers and to scale up their involvement. Toward this end, the YouthForce has been a vital component for hundreds of youth during the 2002 IAC and the 2004 Bangkok IAC.

This group is for the Toronto YouthForce 3 week-long e-consultation from Monday, April 3 to Friday, April 21 to develop an advocacy message and strategy for young people at the IAC in Toronto from August 13 – 17, 2006. Outcomes of the e-consultation (EC) will feed into the Pre-Conference training (August 10-12, 2006) and its advocacy training sessions, as well as visibility materials such as t-shirts, posters, and stickers.

This EC will include opinions about the advocacy message of young people who will and will not be at the conference. Additionally, EC participants will be asked to consult with their peers who are non-ICT connected (without access to internet) to include their opinions on what issues need to be included.

The e-consultation has the following objectives:
1) To brainstorm and develop an action-oriented advocacy message/slogan for the main conference
2) To develop an advocacy strategy and materials based on the decided message
