Report of Strategic Intelligence Conference (SIC)

The report of Strategic Intelligence Conference (SIC) theme INVENTING THE FUTURE OF AFRICA organized by Achievers Consortium International (ACI) held at Pan-Africa University Conference Hall, Lagos, Nigeria.
The conference started at about 11:00 am on September 30th, 2005 after clarification of each participants eligibility with welcome address from the chairman organizing committee of the conference and introduction of special guests and invited speakers among which were Mr. Femi Durotoye of Visible Improvement in Performance (VIP) and the CEO of Punch newspaper (an international Journal in Nigeria).
Later the welcome address was read by the able president of the organization (Achievers Consortium International), Mr. Johnson Abbaly in which de described the conference as a platform for the convergence of smart, intelligent youths in the nation who share a common passion for change and are poised to plot the blue-print for the future and announce the emergence of the iron men who will invent the future of Africa.
In stressing the need this conference he said the conference will ignite a new fire of hope that will expand our capacity to achieve in the realm of pure genius and annihilate the matrix of fear doubt, unbelief and ignorance until like truly liberated minds we walk through walls, discover new realities and expand the vision of what is possible in our lives.
However, at about 12:30 pm a renowned Nigerian motivational speaker (Mr. Femi Durotoye, consultant and CEO of Visible Improvement in Performance) delivered the first opening keynote address in which he mentioned THE KEYS TO GREAT AND REMARKABLE FOOTPRINT as the following:
1. Visioning: The ability to see, inspire and be idealistic about the future.
2. Environmental Scanning: Which mean trying to look what is going on around us.
3. Estimating and forecasting: That is trying to have knowledge of time.
4. Knowledge of the creator of times and season (God): Which means the knowledge of God is needed in having a good and effective visioning, environmental scanning, estimating and forecasting.
5. Requiring the knowledge of HIS DESIRE: that is requiring the knowledge of GOD in having remarkable footprint.
He went ahead to tell by saying that he heard God spoken to him physically on November 23rd, 2004 at 2:10 pm that By December 31, 2025, Nigeria will be undoubtedly, the worlds most desirable Nation to live in. He said God went further to tell him that 3 (three) things will be required to make this possible which are:
· Permission from the people.
· Collaboration effort of everyone.
· Action.
He also said God gave a legitimated National prayer so as for His (God) desire for Nigeria to get manifested by year 2025 in which God told Mr. Fela Durotoye to go and raise 5 (five) million people who would collectively pray this legitimated prayer. In addition Mr. Femi Durotoye also said 5 (five) dimensions of our life will be needed for the renaissance of Nigeria and Africa at large, which are:
· Emotional
· Relational
· Societal
· Spiritual
· Professional
Mr. Femi Durotoye ended his keynote address at 2:00 pm. The second keynote address was delivered by the President of the Achievers Consortium International (ACI) which ended at about 2:50 pm and there was a break for lunch and the session resumed at about 3:30 pm. However, the chairman, organizing committee declared the session opened again at about 3:32 pm in which Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) panel was announced and the issue of problems and challenges facing the youth and Africa renaissance were expressed by participants and the solution to these problems were also iron out. It was very unfortunate that the organizers apologized that the conference could not continue on second day (1st of October, 2005) as initially scheduled because of undisclosed reasons. In conclusion, the conference ended at exactly 5:55 pm.

THE STRATEGIES THAT COULD HELP TAP THE CREATIVITY POOL OF THE YOUTHS IN THE NATION AND EVOLVE A NEW YOUTH CULTURE THAT WILL HELP DRIVE THE RENAISSANCE OF AFRICA.
Africa is a continent that is culturally, materially, morally and naturally endowed with almost everything needed for acquiring a good standard of living that could help the regional development. But looking at the situation surrounding the continent today, one could see that despite these endowments, the continent seems to be poorest region and the area that has the highest number of under-developed and developing nations which is as a result of inefficient and ineffective use of these endowments.
But nowadays, it is the concern of everyone that how can the continent be revived?
Versatile youths are known to be part of the endowment available in this continent because they (African youths) are known to be among the most creative, productive and enthusiastic in almost all aspect but looking at the situation of Africa today, these talented youths are not well tapped into the effective development and renaissance of the continent (Africa).
Nevertheless, it is personally observed that the strategies that could help tap the creativity pool of the youths and evolve a new youth culture in the continent/ region that will help drive the renaissance of Africa can thus be the following:
STRENGTHEN YOUTH NETWORKS AT ALL LEVELS IN AFRICA AND THEREBY PROMOTE A REGIONAL IDENTITY.
The youth network needs to be encouraged and restructured at all level in the Africa, that will surely promote a regional identity through the exchange of information, culture and morality which will also see to the renaissance of the region because of the awareness of brotherhood. Applying the following means thus will be helpful:
(i) Promoting youth exchange programmes
Exchange programme makes one to have varieties of idea and skill in human, cultural and diplomatic relations. And when there are sound relationships, the chances of development of the parties involved will be hasten. It also creates room for inter-cultural learning, which plays an important role in peace advocacy. Youth exchange programmes needs to be promoted so as to create interest in youths towards Africa renaissance and building of versatile youths towards Africa renaissance as well as help in coping with their other brotherhood and sisterhood neighbours culturally, morally, emotionally and socially. This also facilitates the spirit of being in brotherhood and cooperation with other regions (Europe, America, etc). It will also help in using cultural sensitive approach to hasten the renaissance of Africa region.
(ii) Participating in and supporting of events promoting Africa renaissance through youth development.
There are a lot of events that can promote Africa renaissance through youths apart from youth exchange programmes that are capable of building versatile African youths as well, such as: supporting or sponsoring of youth involvement in decision-making and in development programs, etc and other events that can be of benefit to them. This strategy may include an independent democratic youth institute that will embraces all African youth to orient them on their regional identity, tradition and history as such prepares them to inherit the revolutions gain and utilize it in their regional (Africa) reconstruction. The youths should be encouraged to become potential resisting force against whosoever opposes the freedom and unity of the African people and renaissance of their region. They should be supported to maintain and consolidate good relationships with all other international/ regions youth so as to support world peace and justice. Moreover, they should be supported to promote youth
participation to enlighten and educate and encourage them to fill their leisure time with fruitful activities that could be of benefit to them and their societal renaissance. In addition to above, the identification and secure of available resources to support the African youth and territorial renaissance should be put in place.
(iii) Gathering and disseminating appropriate youth information towards African renaissance.
Information is considered to be facts told or discovered which is very important in proper running of things. It is very important to gather and disseminate appropriate information for proper Africa renaissance and invention. It is considered to be a necessary strategy for all categories that needs renaissance and invention such as: leadership & diplomacy, business/ economics, science/ technology, information and communication technology, etc (any category whatsoever). Having known this, gathering and disseminating appropriate information (both within and outside Africa region such as Europe, America, Asian, etc) to African youths must not be under-emphasized. Information that could be of benefit to the Africa youths and their societal renaissance should be gathered and disseminated to the youth from time to time. Also, new skills and ideas should be gathered from youths towards the development of Africa renaissance and they should be informed, from time to time an interactive tools
for development planning towards their societal renaissance.
PROMOTE THE INTEREST AND DEVELOPMENT OF AFRICAN YOUTH.
The interest and development of African youths can be promoted by thus applying the principles below:
(i) Organising and facilitating the African youths of appropriate training programmes.
It must be noted that to promote and develop youths, the strategy of training and re-training should not be effete. They are known to be the leaders of tomorrow. With this their great and important role, they need training and re-training in all aspect, for them to be versatile. In renaissance and invention of Africa the youths need to be facilitated with trainings at all time. The issue of getting training should not be limited to the parents/ guardian and the one the youths might have gained from primary agents of socialization (i.e. school, peer group, etc). For it is even written in the fundamental principle of youths right that: for Survival, development and protection; the authorities in your country must protect you and help ensure your full development physical, spiritual, moral and social.
(ii) Proper representation and listening to voice of African Youth on the issue of Africa renaissance and formulating positions on important issues affecting the youths towards Africa renaissance.
African youths being among the most creative and versatile in the world should be allowed to have good and fair representative voice both locally and internationally. African youths voices should be listening to by the appropriate authorities and their needs should be properly attended to towards Africa renaissance. Their voices should not be counted as a noise in a coffee shop or market place that is to say; there voices should not be considered useless not only to the renaissance of Africa but also to the other important issues.
(iii) Providing encouragement and incentives such as Youth Award Schemes, for individuals, organisations and projects to promote Africa renaissance.
Another important strategy that can be used that could help tap the creativity pool of the youths and evolve a new youth culture in the nation that will help drive the renaissance of Africa is by showing appreciation to the youths and projects who have helped in their societal renaissance positively. Africa renaissance and invention can be built when those who are contributing meaningfully towards it are properly and adequately encouraged through incentives such as Youth Award Scheme for individuals, organizations and projects that promote Africa development and renaissance.
OTHER STRATEGIES INCLUDE:
(i) Co-operation with Governments and administrations of the nation/ region to advance the development of Africa renaissance, invention and Youth culture.
(ii) Innovative ways of delivering Africa renaissance messages through community theaters from youths and through multi-activity, youth-friendly centres. For example, delivering cultural and moral messages, etc.
In conclusion, if all these strategies are properly put in right places, it could help drive the renaissance of Africa through the creativity pool of youths in the nation to a successful height. In a notable quotation from the UN Secretary General (Mr. Kofi Anna) that says, These young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow, they can play a leading role in the development of their communities today
Let us hope that their good works today blossom into life long commitments that will benefit the entire worlds people.
