What is The Young Literati International?

The Young Literati International is a non-governmental organisation and youth oriented
organisation. It is an organisation that realizes the great need to bring together all youth
regardless of race, gender, religion, physical, social and culture differences etc from all
the global villages to enable them cooperate, unify, develop, tolerable as well as advocate
peace and shun acts of violence, etc.

TYL International Mission and Vision Statement:

Our vision is to be a virtuoso in youth development, empowerment, activism, and
unification with the largest youth network, while our mission is to offer world - class
services in youth development, empowerment, activism, and uni f ication through
physical participation and the use of literature materials

THE ROLE OF TYL INTERNATIONAL

As a youth development oriented organisation, TYL Int. role are to:

· Advocacy and Lobbying: The first and foremost responsibility of TYL Int. is to
stand for youth issues in all spheres and at all levels, ensuring that the youths’
concern and special needs are provided for and that the relevant bodies are well
aware of those needs.

· Service Provision: TYL int. seeks to provide services that are relevant to
development of youth and the global communities, such as: environment and
community services, organising and facilitating of appropriate training
programmes, providing a representative voice for the youth, providing
encouragement and ince n tives such as youth award schemes for individuals,
organisations and projects to promote youth development, etc.


Organizational Profile

TYL International is a youth development, empowerment and peace campaign organisation promoting youth intercultural learning, brings youth/young ones together through equal opportunity, tolerance and peace among the people of the world, train youth/ young ones for leadership, build young people’s profile through organising and facilitating of training, seminar, forum, workshop, exhibition, etc as well as youth activism in a non-violence way.

The organisation (TYL Int.) realizes the great need to bring together all youth regardless of race, gender, religion, physical, social or cultural differences, etc from global village to enable them to cooperate, unified, developed, be tolerated as well as advocate peace and shun acts of violence, etc.

TYL Int. organises the youth as a driving force for global changes positively, realizing that the youth are strong, steadfast and reliable backbone for social transformation. TYLI being youth development oriented organisation, endeavours to guide the youth by handling clearly described strategies, which are: Promoting youth exchange programmes, Gathering and disseminating appropriate youth information to members and their country, Formulating positions on important issues affecting youth, Organising and facilitating the youth of appropriate training programmes as well as commitment to the long-term sustainable development of the global village so as to be in better place to build the world of their own dream.


Background

The formation of the organisation was a result of initiative of a youth development activist named Aremu Olakanmi John in the year 2003. He later includes some numbers of youth who comes from different cultural background and schools on




March 21st 2003 in Nigeria after leaving secondary/ high school. This non-governmental, youth development organisation (TYL Int.) concerns itself primarily to the development, empowerment, unification, networking and activism towards the youth and global village development.





Meanwhile, the organisation was formerly known as AYLN (Association of Young literati of Nigeria) in which was later changed to The Young Literati International on December 12, 2004 due to a congress held. The organisation has done workshops as well as seminars for youth among which was: “Optimizing your youth” which was done on 26th March 2005 with over 30 participants.


The Aims of TYLI

(a)

To prepare young people for the challenges ahead of them which could be in form of intimidation, child abuse/ exploitation, drug abuse, human trafficking/ exploitation, intolerance, discrimination, HIV/AIDS, corruption and the likes and ways of eradicating these challenges in our societal environment.
(b) To stimulate and engender a sense of loyalty and dedication to the development, empowerment and unification of the youth and the global community.
(c) Promote and protect culture and help in inter-cultural learning.
(d) Fight against HIV/AIDS and discharge humanitarian services to its victims.
(e) To render appropriate assistance after study carefully any problem confronting the youth.
(f) To undertake suitable programmes which among other things that are capable of promoting youth and the globalcommunity as well as cooperation, which shall serve as a source of encouragement and improvement to the global youth.
(g) Advocating and lobbying for children’s and youth’s right.


The Objectives of TYLI

In order to achieve the above aims, TYL International principal tasks are as follows:

(a) Strengthen Youths Network at all levels and thereby promote identity through the exchange and dissemination of information, for example by;
(i) Publishing newsletters.
(ii) Promoting youth exchange programmes
(iii) Participating in and supporting of events promoting youth development.
(iv) Gathering and disseminating appropriate youth information to members and their country.
(b) Promote the interest and development of global youth by:
(i) Organising and facilitating the organisation of appropriate training programmes.
(ii) Providing a representative voice for the youth through cooed, printed materials, electronic media, etc (Activism).
(iii) Formulating positions on important issues affecting the Youth.
(iv) Providing encouragement and incentives such as Youth Award Schemes for individuals, organisations and projects to promote Youth Development.


TYLI Values

TYLI programmes and activities are guided by its values. The values that TYLI stands for are as follows:

· The promotion of unity, tolerance and respect for principles of youth and human rights.
· Commitment to the total well being of young people physically, intellectually, emotionally, culturally, and morally regardless of gender, colour, race, social or cultural differences.
· Pursuit of equitable and non-discriminatory opportunities for the development of the unique potentials of young men and women.
· Respect for law and order and accept the principle of fairness, equality and unity in everyday life
· Respect for human dignity, diversity and unity.


Conclusion

The Young Literati International (TYLI), with due consideration and respect to legitimate interest and concerns wishes to have relations with individual, youth organisations as well as government that stand for the well-being of youth.
