The World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) is a non governmental international organization representing some 15 millions engineers and more than 85 national and international engineering organizations. The WFEO is the most important engineering organization worldwide. It was established in 1968 in Paris, under the auspices of UNESCO. It represents the engineering community at the international events.

The WFEO has been closely involved in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), since the inception of the preparatory process of this summit. In October 2003 The WFEO organized with effective and valuable support of Infodev program the world engineering congress on Digital Divide. This congress which gathered around 1500 engineers from 70 countries was accredited by the ITU as a preparatory encounter for the WSIS first phase. The objective of the congress was to address the WSIS-related issues from an engineering perspective and to draw up a plan of action that was adopted by the WFEO as part of its contribution to reduce the Digital Divide. The WFEO also organized within the framework of the WSIS several other events in Brazil - Spain and Geneva.

The WFEO conceived its contribution as a continuing process rather than some isolated events. To this end the WFEO has scheduled some events leading to the WSIS second phase, among which an international seminar on «Knowledge Economy, Knowledge Management, Knowledge Sharing ». This seminar which will be held in Tunis on 17 June 2005, has been recognized as a preparatory event for the WSIS second phase. More than 200 participants from Tunisia and African countries are expected to take part in it.
