Be a youth delegate at the largest European conference on Urban
Sustainability in 2007 - funding available!

Recognising the relevance of youth engagement in sustainability, the
organisers of Sevilla 2007 have committed to partially fund twenty
young
persons (ages 18 to 25) to attend, in particular young elected
officials.
Sevilla 2007 is the 5th European Conference on Sustainable Cities &
Towns,
taking place in Sevilla, Spain, from 21-24 March 2007
(www.sevilla2007.org)
It is a unique event revolving around the Aalborg Commitments: a set of
shared commitments on sustainable development to be jointly implemented
by
local governments across Europe.

Selected candidates will receive free accommodation for 5 nights in
youth
hostel and a full fee waiver (total equivalent to 600 EUR). Other
travel
costs will have to be covered by the young person's organisation or by
fundraising to his or her local government. The financial support is
drawn
from a levy on each paying delegates attending the conference named the
Future Generations Fee, similar to a carbon-offset fee.

Deadline for submitting your application is 25 January 2007. More at

The Sevilla 2007 Conference
Sevilla 2007 is the 5th European Conference on Sustainable Cities &
Towns,
taking place in Sevilla, Spain, from 21-24 March 2007.
www.sevilla2007.org
It is a unique event revolving around the Aalborg Commitments, a set
of
shared commitments on sustainable development to be jointly implemented
by
local governments across Europe. More than 1,000 delegates are
expected. It
follows a series of conferences since 1994.

Youth at the Conference
Youth is one of the main focus at the conference. The organisers of
Sevilla
2007 have committed to partially fund twenty young persons from
18
to 25 to attend, in particular young elected officials. These young
people
will form a delegation that will be active in the programme in
particular at
the main plenaries, in technical sessions and roundtables. More on
www.sevilla2007.org/youth

Why we involve youth?
Sustainability is a long term process. The future generations of
leaders
must be actively engaged in policy decisions that will
disproportionally affect them. The Conference will present an
opportunity to
engage in the objectives of the conference: to spread and accelerate
sustainability in Europe by 'Taking the Commitments to the Streets'.
