ICLEI wants to do it again! (www.iclei.org)
We want to involve youth in ALL our conferences.

To do so, we are applying for European funding.
To enhance the reach and learn from youth themselves, we are seeking partners in
youth NGOs (legally registered).

Dear colleague,
ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability is seeking partners from youth NGOs and
Local Governments, to be involved in a project to be presented in a call for proposal by
the European Commission for the YOUTH programme. ICLEI is a world wide
association of local members committed to promote sustainable development. ICLEI is
currently developing more and more activities in cooperation with young people and is
therefore really keen on working on the following project. You can find out more about

International Training Centre of ICLEI, which is the international training and conference

Goal
Improve trans-national cooperation on the issue of sustainability between youth NGOs,
Local Governments and each group themselves.
Summary
Create innovative interaction space and communication channels, by engaging young
people into relevant local governments conferences on sustainability. Make the youth
presence effective by providing prior topical training on sustainable programmes,
advocacy skills and municipal workings.

Why conferences?
Communication networks between organisations working in a similar field are
increasingly being built and enhanced through a variety of conferences. Local
Governments often host or take part in such meetings, often through an association with
a larger network. On the topic of sustainability, ICLEI is a reference in Europe and
worldwide as a conference organiser who brings together keen local bodies and experts.
When discussing sustainability, it is agreed upon in seminal international agreements
that YOUTH must be active in the process. Thus, engaging YOUTH in local
government’s conferences involves them at the heart of current discussions and
connects them to the relevant actors within a constructive framework
How to train?
In addition, YOUTH innovative ideas and compelling enthusiasm for sustainability can
be presented in a more effective way through training furthering knowledge on
sustainability, advocacy skills and municipal workings. This training can be effectively
deliver by employing the tangible experience of partners in both youth NGOs and local
authorities.

How we envision the work with our partners?
Shall you be interested to join this innovative project we will start collaboration early!
Inputs
To make the proposal relevant to your needs/priorities, we would like to gain the
following input:
- what are the needs/working priorities of your organisation
- what can your youth NGO bring to the partnership (networks? training? handbooks?
events?, etc.)
- all in a few hundreds words.
Documents
- Letter of endorsement, outilining their motivation and their capacity to participate (on
official letterhead and with original signature)
- CV of responsible person
- A list of project already undertaken in the field
What we kindly hope to receive from your organisation
- Known and reliable personal contacts (outside your country) of organisations working
with youth on sustainable development.
