Subject: UNAIDS Special Youth Programme
Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to inform you that we have just put out a call for
applications for the second round of the UNAIDS Special Youth Programme
(SYP) on our website.
As some of you may know, the Programme was established last year and was
modeled on the successful UNFPA Special Youth Programme which was created
in 2004. It consists of a 6 month fellowship at UNAIDS Geneva followed by a
3 month fellowship in the UNAIDS country office in the fellow's country of
origin. The objective of the Programme is to help engage young people in
policy development and programming as well as build their capacity and
leadership skills to contribute to the AIDS response. The administration
and funding for the Programme are organized from Geneva with logistics
facilitated by the UNDP JPO Service center in Copenhagen. I am attaching
the TOR of the fellowship for your information.
Our first two fellows were from Guyana and Papua New Guinea and they are
currently carrying out the country office part of the fellowship. This year
we seek to recruit 2-3 fellows depending on the quality of applications,
and we strongly encourage the application of young people living with HIV.
In this regard, we would be grateful if you could put out the word about
the call for applications within your country so as to ensure we reach as
many young people as possible. If you know personally of individuals who
you think would be good for the Programme, please encourage them to apply.
You are welcome to forward the attached terms of reference. The application
deadline is 5 March.
We will be reviewing applications in March and make an initial shortlist by
the end of the month. Should young people from your country be included on
the shortlist we will share their CVs with you for your input and views.
Once the final shortlist is established, we will proceed with interviews
via teleconference which will be in close collaboration with the relevant
country office and include country office participation on the interview
panel. We hope to have the fellows here by beginning of June 09.
