RIVERS STATE YOUTH NETWORK ON HIV/AIDS POPULATION AND DEVELOPMENT
Background
Rivers State is located in the Niger Delta region of the of Nigeria, was created in 1967. It has a landmass of 37,00km square, with 23 Local Government Areas and Port Harcourt as its capital city.
The people of Rivers State are predominantly farmers, fishermen and retail traders. The farming, fishing and trading activities are carried out at a subsistence level, resulting in low income and poverty. The State is endowed with abundant natural resources such as oil and gas. This has resulted in high in-flocks of people into the State with attendant problems such as HIV prevalence, unemployment and adolescent reproductive health hazards.
The Rivers State Youth HIV/AIDS Open Forum are a part of RIV-NYNETHA efforts to integrate young people from the hard to reach terrain, rural and water-logged communities in Rivers State into the state HIV response effort and to build their capacity to make safer decision on their health and sexuality.

In response to the increasing prevalence of HIV/AIDS among young people, the national agencies for the control of aids and UN-system in Nigeria established NYNETHA for youth participation. This has led to an increase in young people involvement. In this context, the rivers state youth HIV/AIDS response is organizing an open forum to move youth form participation to stakeholders, share lesson learnt/best practices, build capacity and make recommendation to further strengthen the state response.
The organizing committee of the Rivers state youth HIV/AIDS open forum is hereby requesting for abstract for submission, call for volunteers and nomination of awards in the following areas:
