4th -7th FEBRUARY 2008, ABUJA , NIGERIA

Second Call for Abstracts

Deadline EXTENDED: September 30, 2007

The Abstract Review Committee for the 3rd Africa
Conference on Sexual Health and Rights has extended
their deadline in order to give submitters an
opportunity to send in abstracts that highlight
programmatic experiences in the area of Sexual Health
and Rights. The deadline for submission of abstracts
will be September 30, 2007. Women and Youth are
strongly encouraged to apply.

The conference theme is Sexuality, Poverty and
Accountability in Africa and the sub-themes include:
• Adolescent and Youth Sexuality (Sexuality
Education/Life Skills/HIV/AIDS Education, Youth
Participation and Leadership, Youth Friendly Health
Services, Married Adolescents, Livelihood Skills)
• Women’s Sexuality (Unsafe Abortion, Maternal
Morbidity and Mortality, Sexual Pleasure, Gender and
Sexuality)
• Family Planning and Reproductive Health (Access,
Equity, New Technologies, Ethics, Politics, Health
Systems, Infertility)
• HIV/AIDS and Sexuality (HIV/AIDS and Family
Planning, Access to Treatment, Sexual Rights of People
Living with HIV/AIDS, Poverty and HIV/AIDS,
Accountability in HIV/AIDS Programming, Integrating
Sexuality into HIV/AIDS Programming,)
• Sexuality and Religion (Faith-Based Initiatives,
Religion and Sexual Rights, Traditional Religion,
Gender Roles in a Religious Context)
• Sexual Abuse and Gender Based Violence (Rape,
Intimate Partner Abuse, Legal Frameworks, Childhood
Sexual Abuse, Sexual Harassment and Exploitation,
Sexual Initiation Practices)
• Culture, Media and Arts (Cultural Norms and
Sexuality, Public and Private Sexuality, Media
Accountability, Media and Behavioral Change, FGM,
Widowhood, Initiation into Adulthood)
• Sexuality and Knowledge Management (Research,
Training, Capacity Building, New Advocacies)
• (Im)Mobility and Sexuality (Migration, Forced
Migration, Internally Displaced Persons, Trafficking
in Persons and Sexual Slavery)
• Sexuality and the Law (Transactional Sex,
Pornography, Sex Work, Conjugal Benefits, Forced
Marriage, Sexual Intimacy and the Law)
Abstract Submission Requirements

 Abstracts must be prepared in a text
format
 Abstracts may be submitted in English
or in French
 Abstracts must indicate the link the
presenter will make to the main conference theme
 Abstracts must clearly indicate the
following: -

o Abstract Title
o 5 Keywords describing the presentation
o Preferred presentation type: Oral or Poster
o Name(s) of Author and Institution(s) with the
name of the presenting author appearing first
o Postal and Email address
o Required audiovisual equipment. When the use
of videotape is required, submitter should specify
video system and format.
 Abstracts must include separate
paragraphs on: -
o Background and Objectives
o Issues and methods
o Findings
o Conclusions and Recommendations
 Abstracts must not exceed 400 words
 Abstracts should be submitted via email
to the Conference Coordinator at
conference (at) actionhealthinc.org and will be
acknowledged upon receipt.


Abstract Acceptance Notification
All abstracts will be submitted to the Abstract Review
Committee. Once reviewed, the Conference Secretariat
will notify you of your abstract status (accepted or
not accepted and final session format). If your
abstract is accepted for presentation, you will be
required to confirm your participation and register
for the conference. Please note that the conference
organizers are not offering scholarships for
participation or presentation of papers.
